Disney’s Lilo & Sтιтch Finally Gets A Digital Release After Crossing $1B Box Office

Lilo & Sтιтch has finally revealed its digital release date. The second live-action Disney remake to come out this year, Lilo & Sтιтch was originally released over Memorial Day Weekend. The movie was directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and featured the return of Chris Sanders as the voice of Sтιтch, while introducing Maia Kealoha as Lilo.

Lilo & Sтιтch received great reviews, and instantly found a strong audience. The movie earned a 71% Tomatometer from critics and an even higher 92% Popcornmeter from audiences. ScreenRant‘s Mary Kᴀssel gave the movie 7 out of 10 stars, calling it “Disney’s best live-action remake yet.”

As per Disney, the Lilo & Sтιтch digital release date has been revealed. The movie will be available to purchase on digital starting tomorrow, July 22. This will be followed by a release on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD next month, on August 26.

The digital and physical releases will also have bonus features made available to purchase. These will include bloopers, deleted scenes, and behind-the-scenes clips.

What This Means For Lilo & Sтιтch

The Film Got Enough Theatrical Exclusivity

This digital release date means that Lilo & Sтιтch will have had a long period of theatrical exclusivity. The film came out on May 23 of this year, giving it nearly two full months in theaters before hitting digital. This was a huge change from the original plan, which would have had the movie release on streaming first.

In this period, Lilo & Sтιтch has been able not only to win over critics, but to also become a huge box office hit. Just last week, the movie officially crossed the $1 billion mark globally. At the time of writing, the film had a $1.007 billion gross worldwide.

Thus, Disney let Lilo & Sтιтch cross this major milestone before giving it an at-home release. As a result, Lilo & Sтιтch has become one of the most successful Disney live-action adaptations ever made.

Our Take On The Lilo & Sтιтch Digital Release Date

The Film Will Continue To Do Well Digitally

Lilo & Sтιтch‘s success story will not stop in theaters. Especially given the primary audience is children, who tend to rewatch things, the digital purchase market will be significant. This will allow the live-action remake to continue to grow in profit even as it fades out of theaters.

This is good news for the future of Lilo & Sтιтch. In reaction to the first movie’s success, Lilo & Sтιтch 2 has already been confirmed and is in development at Disney. If the movie has a significant enough digital presence, it will be even more likely that the second movie will be another huge box office win.
