Lilo & Sтιтch Climbs Past $6.6 Billion Franchise On Box Office Charts Twice In The Same Weekend

Lilo & Sтιтch is surging past two major franchise installments at the box office in a single weekend. The 2025 movie, which was directed by Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On), is a live-action remake of Disney’s 2002 animated hit of the same name.

The Lilo & Sтιтch release kicked off on Memorial Day weekend, at which point it began its streak of record breaking, beating Top: Gun Maverick to earn the best Memorial Day debut ever. Later, it rose past the $1 billion milestone, becoming Hollywood’s first billion-dollar movie of 2025 and the second overall, behind China’s Ne Zha 2 ($1.899 billion).

Per The Numbers, Lilo & Sтιтch has reached a cumulative worldwide box office total of $1.008 billion at the end of its ninth weekend in theaters. This total comes from the $418.2 million that it has earned in domestic theaters combined with its $589.8 million from international markets.

This whopping total sees it surpᴀssing two Jurᴀssic movies on the charts simultaneously, as it has raced past the $417.7 million domestic total earned by 2018’s Jurᴀssic World: Fallen Kingdom and the $1.002 billion worldwide gross of 2022’s Jurᴀssic World Dominion.

What This Means For Lilo & Sтιтch

It’s One Of The Highest-Grossing Movies Ever

While Lilo & Sтιтch beat the domestic total of Jurᴀssic World: Fallen Kingdom, it has not yet surpᴀssed its global total of $1.310 billion. It most likely never will, considering how far it already is into its theatrical run. However, it is still a record-shattering success in spite of that fact.

By surpᴀssing Jurᴀssic World Dominion, the Lilo & Sтιтch box office has risen to the point that the movie is now the 57th highest-grossing movie of all time worldwide. Even if it never earns another cent, it has already surpᴀssed the worldwide grosses of a wide variety of huge theatrical hits.

Below, see a breakdown of some of the movies that are immediately below Lilo & Sтιтch on the all-time worldwide chart:

The movie’s reported budget is $150 million, which means that its break-even point was likely not much higher than $375 million, giving it hundreds of millions of dollars of pure profit.

Our Take On The Lilo & Sтιтch Box Office Milestone

The Franchise Has A Bright Future

With this kind of profit, it makes sense why the upcoming Lilo & Sтιтch 2 was greenlit back in June. It is entirely possible that the live-action sequel could gross even more, but even if it doesn’t, the Lilo & Sтιтch franchise has returned to the big screen in a major way that gives it a bright future.
