DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has addressed two major rumors regarding Wonder Woman in the DCU on social media. This is true to form for the DC Studios boss, who frequently communicates with fans about the current state of the franchise.
With Superman performing well in theaters, it’s no surprise that conversation has ignited around the remaining two of DC’s Big Three, Wonder Woman and Batman. Although very little is known about either of their solo movies, DC will likely be recasting the roles from the DCEU.
In his latest interaction on Threads, James Gunn confirmed that the DCU’s Wonder Woman is a priority, but isn’t being fast-tracked as some reports suggest. He also quashed rumors that DC is seeking a TV show actress for the role, stating that the casting process won’t begin until a script has been completed. Both responses can be seen below:

What James Gunn’s DC Wonder Woman Comments Mean
James Gunn’s Comments Continue A Positive Habit
Despite Wonder Woman being among DC’s most popular characters (and an integral component of the DCU’s Justice League adaptation), Gunn’s comments uphold an important trend for the DCU. Namely, that productions aren’t being rushed, no matter how prudent it may be to release them as soon as possible.
Ultimately, this should mean that whoever the DCU casts as Wonder Woman will have been carefully considered after a fleshed-out production process, helping to ensure the final product is the best it can be.
James Gunn has previously confirmed that DC Studios will follow a stringent production process for its movies and shows, where projects won’t be greenlit until a script has been completed and approved. Somewhat surprisingly, this isn’t par for the course with many superhero movies, which can often begin production without finalized scripts.
Gunn’s ᴀssertion that casting decisions are based purely on talent rather than experience is also a positive sign for the franchise. Ultimately, this should mean that whoever the DCU casts as Wonder Woman will have been carefully considered after a fleshed-out production process, helping to ensure the final product is the best it can be.
Our Take On James Gunn’s DC Wonder Woman Comments
I’m Happy To Wait And Trust The Process
Although I’m particularly excited to see how the DCU will handle Wonder Woman after Superman set the bar so high, I’m more than happy to wait. James Gunn proved that the lengthy process serves an important purpose with Superman, which spent a year in post-production and launched the DCU with a flourish.
Superman is currently the audience’s favorite modern live-action DC movie with a 93% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes.
James Gunn’s revelation about the casting process is also heartening. Milly Alcock’s short cameo in Superman was enough to illustrate his point: that she is perfect for the role. I imagine that the same will be true for the DCU’s Wonder Woman, and I’m willing to wait and trust the process if it leads to the best possible outcome.
