Popular Batman Casting Choice Addresses DC Universe Speculation: “That’s Not Something I Can Say”

MCU alum and popular Batman fan cast Lee Pace addresses the possibility of playing Batman in the DCU. With James Gunn’s Superman successfully launching the DCU, the franchise is getting ready to welcome its new Wonder Woman and Batman. It may take a while for the DCU’s Wonder Woman casting to be announced, but Batman’s DCU actor may be revealed sooner thanks to the upcoming release of Andy Muschietti’s The Brave and the Bold, parallel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman franchise.

In an interview with The Playlist, Foundation star Lee Pace answers whether he has been in talks to play Batman for the DCU. Pace doesn’t confirm or deny it. Instead, he notes “what a great privilege” it is for any actor to play the Dark Knight and praises all the actors who have worn the cape and cowl throughout the years. Check out Pace’s full comments below:

“I can’t answer that in this context. I mean, Batman is one of the great, fun cinematic characters. It’s so cool. I mean, how fun. And what a great privilege for anyone to get to play a role like that. Talk about the canon of fun actors who have made that character their own. So wicked.”

What Lee Pace’s Batman Casting Comments Mean

The DCU’s Batman Will Only Be Officially Announced Once The Brave And The Bold Is Ready To Start Production

Discussion around Batman’s DCU casting will continue to rise with each movie and show released before The Brave and the Bold. However, no actor, whether rumored or actually in the running for the role, may confirm their possible involvement in the project at this point. Secrecy is a top priority in high-profile projects, especially those that are part of a franchise as big as the new DC Universe.

James Gunn only confirmed that David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, and Rachel Brosnahan were cast as Superman, Lex Luthor, and Lois Lane shortly before Superman began filming. That way, set footage wouldn’t spoil their casting before an official announcement. The Brave and the Bold may take a while to begin pre-production, so DC Studios revealing any info about potential stars wouldn’t be reasonable at the moment.

Our Take On Lee Pace’s Batman Casting Comments

Lee Pace Is A Strong Choice For The DCU’s Batman

Lee Pace's Brother Day smirks in Foundation

The Brave and the Bold‘s Batman is set to be a seasoned veteran, likely older than Superman, but not jaded like Ben Affleck’s DCEU Batman. Pace’s performance as Brother Day in Apple TV’s Foundation highlights exactly the kind of balance needed, with a cold, commanding presence and emotional restraint, all while keeping a subtle vulnerability under the surface. Pace’s remarkable physicality and stoic demeanor as Brother Day would translate well into Bruce Wayne’s dual life.

Lee Pace also brings prior superhero experience from his role as Ronan the Accuser in Guardians of the Galaxy. While Ronan underutilized Pace’s full potential, there’s a reasonable chance James Gunn would consider collaborating again with another MCU alum. Similarly to how the DCU is giving Frank Grillo and Nathan Fillion bigger roles than the MCU, Batman would allow Lee Pace to play a layered character with all the gravitas and physicality that his MCU role lacked.
