The Odyssey IMAX 70mm Theater List: Where To See It

The Odyssey is coming to theaters on July 16, 2025. Featuring a stellar cast of Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, and many more, the next Christopher Nolan blockbuster after Oppenheimer is one of the most highly anticipated films arriving in 2026.

Centering on Odysseus’ ten-year journey home following the Trojan War, the period action epic marks another step in the technical advancement of cinema. By incorporating new technology into the art of filmmaking, Nolan is bringing a one-of-a-kind viewing experience to the big screen, particularly IMAX.

Why The Odyssey Should Be Seen In IMAX

Nolan’s Latest Is Making History With IMAX Cameras

Christopher Nolan looking intensely off to the side

Nolan has a reputation for utilizing IMAX cameras to capture certain scenes in his movies. From his Oscar-winning Oppenheimer to The Dark Knight and Interstellar, the writer-director has incorporated IMAX footage in different formats into his blockbusters to deliver unique viewing experiences. However, this isn’t the only reason why Nolan’s highly anticipated pic should be viewed on IMAX 70mm.

The upcoming big-screen adaptation of Homer’s epic poem marks the first commercial film in history to be sH๏τ entirely in IMAX film cameras, which means IMAX, in fact, is the intended format for the film.

During the Cannes Film Festival, per The Hollywood Reporter, IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond shed some light on Nolan’s approach to cinematography in The Odyssey, sharing that “he forced us to rethink that side of our business, our film recorders, our film cameras.” The company also developed new models that are quieter and lighter to be used exclusively for Nolan’s production until the film is wrapped.

Not watching The Odyssey in IMAX would miss out on the immersive experience the Oscar-winning filmmaker tried to bring to the big screen with the release.
