The Batman 2 & 3 Get New Updates From Colin Farrell After Sequel Script Completion

The Batman 2 and The Batman 3 get new updates from Oz Cobb actor Colin Farrell as Matt Reeves’ DC franchise gets ready to expand. After years of waiting, The Batman 2 script was confirmed to be completed in an official update from Reeves, reinforcing the idea that filming is getting closer to happening later this year.

Currently, plot details have been extremely limited for The Batman 2, as fans are actively waiting to learn what new characters will be used from the comics. One of the established villains who looks set to be making his way back into The Batman 2 is The Penguin, following the events of Farrell’s HBO series.

In a recent interview with Variety, Farrell addressed whether or not The Penguin season 2 could happen, as the fate of the DC TV show is still very much up in the air. While confirming that nothing is set in stone for The Penguin TV show’s continuation, Farrell shared that he is getting ready for The Batman 2, while also addressing a hypothetical The Batman 3:

Colin Farrell: There’s literally not. If there was, and I was told to lie to you, I’d probably have to lie to you. But genuinely, no. Because the show went well, of course, there’s been rumblings about, “Would we do a second season? What would that look like?” There is absolutely nothing in process. There’s “Batman 2,” which I haven’t read the script for yet. And then there’s “Batman 3.” I don’t know if I’m in them or what’s happening, but I’ll hopefully read “Batman 2” soon.

While a season 2 has not been confirmed to happen, The Penguin earned 24 Emmy nominations, making it one of the few comic book TV shows to be recognized at the Emmys. The Penguin landed nominations in categories such as Best Actor for Farrell, Best Actress for Christin Millioti as Sofia Falcone, and Limited Anthology Series.

What Colin Farrell’s Comments Mean For The Batman 2 & 3

With The Batman 2 screenplay completed, the film can now continue with the pre-production process, with actors finally being able to learn what is in store for their respective characters. Since The Batman 2 is set to start filming at the end of 2025, there is still plenty of time for stars like Farrell to take in the material while preparing for his return.

When it comes to The Batman 3, it’s key to remember that a third installment has not been greenlit by DC Studios, given that The Batman 2 hasn’t even happened yet. As such, it seems Farrell’s comment about The Batman 3 is more so him addressing that he doesn’t know if he would be back for a third outing.

While it’s great to hear that Farrell is getting ready for the sequel, it will be fascinating to see how he fits into The Batman 2 story, especially after The Penguin season 1 finale. Depending on how The Batman 2 ends, that will likely inform whether or not there is a natural place for Oz in a potential The Batman 3, if it goes forward.

The bigger question, however, is what The Batman 2 will actually focus on, given that there is no word yet on who will be Bruce Wayne’s next villain in the franchise. Hopefully, as they get closer to kicking off principal pH๏τography at the end of 2025, more concrete details on The Batman 2 will start to emerge.
