Netflix’s Fantasy Gem With 96% RT Score Reclaims No. 1 Spot On Global Charts As Movie Closes In On All-Time Record

A proven Netflix animated fan favorite has returned to the top of the streaming charts globally, which is hardly surprising given the impact it has had (and the present lack of worthy compeтιтion). Netflix has produced a few highly critically acclaimed movies in the past few years, as well as some Best Animated Feature contenders, but none quite like this.

It has, overall, been a strong few weeks for Netflix with multiple certified streaming hits. On the television side of things, Squid Game season 3 has been dominating, but The Sandman season 2 and CTV’s Sullivan’s Crossing have also been in the Top 10. But it is another property based in Korean culture that is Netflix’s top movie for the week.

KPop Demon Hunters Reclaims The #1 Spot In Movies On Netflix Globally

The Old Guard 2 Was Only Briefly Able To Surpᴀss It

Netflix’s animated fantasy original KPop Demon Hunters is now in its fourth week in Netflix’s Top 10 movies. The musical adventure about a K-pop girl group who double as demon hunters and face off with a demon boy band has been a huge critical and audience success, sparking conversation about a KPop Demon Hunters sequel.

KPop Demon Hunters looks set to be one of Netflix’s top movies for a while longer now.

KPop Demon Hunters was previously Netflix’s #1 movie (in English) in the world, but fell slightly with the release of The Old Guard 2 on July 2. However, per Netflix Tudum, KPop Demon Hunters has reclaimed the top spot for the week of July 7 to 13, with 24.2 million views. It is reportedly the #1 movie in 26 countries this week as well.

KPop Demon Hunters looks set to be one of Netflix’s top movies for a while longer now. According to What’s on Netflix, which also noted the movie’s rise in viewership, KPop Demon Hunters is on track to become Netflix’s most-watched animated launch ever. This record is currently held by 2023’s Leo, which was viewed just over 100 million times in its first two months.

What This Means For KPop Demon Hunters

The Movie Could Become A Streaming Classic

It was clear that Netflix had a hit on its hands shortly after KPop Demon Hunters’ initial release, but the movie is going above and beyond. It could become a Netflix classic with this kind of success, as synonymous with the streamer as its hit shows. Of course, this would be even more likely if Netflix produced a series of movies.

KPop Demon Hunters’ astounding success also sets up the creative team to do pretty much whatever they want with it from here. There has been no official word on a continuation, but there are plenty of questions for a KPop Demon Hunters sequel to answer, and Netflix would be foolish to drop the budding series now.
