I Can’t Believe Jurᴀssic World Rebirth Missed Out On A Dinosaur Rematch 24 Years In The Making

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Jurᴀssic World Rebirth!

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth just had the opportunity to feature a rematch of one of the franchise’s most memorable fights, and I can’t believe that the film missed out on it after 24 years of waiting. While there are all kinds of dinosaur fights throughout the Jurᴀssic Park franchise, one stands out above them all, yet Jurᴀssic World Rebirth forgot to acknowledge it.

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth is the latest installment in the Jurᴀssic Park franchise, with it moving on from the Jurᴀssic World trilogy and featuring an all-new cast of characters. This time, a group of dinosaur smugglers is tasked with heading to a test site from the days of the original Jurᴀssic Park and stealing the DNA from three of the island’s biggest dinosaurs.

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth Should’ve Had A T. rex Vs. Spinosaurus Rematch

After Their Fight In Jurᴀssic Park III

While there were some pretty cool dinosaur fights in Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, I can’t believe that the film didn’t have a fight between the T. rex and the Spinosaurus. The Spinosaurus is famously the most antagonistic dinosaur in Jurᴀssic Park III, and when it faced off against a T. rex in the film, the Spinosaurus won.

Thanks to how cool this scene was, it has stuck out among the franchises many dinosaur fights, with many fans awaiting a rematch between the two beasts. 2015’s Jurᴀssic World even teased a rematch, with the T. rex destroying the skeleton of a Spinosaurus.

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth finally featured the T. rex and the Spinosaurus in the same location again, yet it decided not to feature a fight between them. With both of the animals being set up so early in the film, it seemed like a fight was imminent. However, it was a bit disappointing when the credits rolled without a Jurᴀssic Park III rematch.

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth Also Avoided A T. rex Vs. D-Rex Showdown

But The Director Has Already Explained Why

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth also missed out on another seemingly obvious dinosaur fight, that being a battle between the T. rex and the new D. rex. Since the D. rex was the main villain of Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, it seemed obvious that it would fight the T. rex. After all,

Tyrannosaurs have fought the prominently featured dinosaur at the end of almost every Jurᴀssic Park movie.

However, this is exactly why this fight wasn’t featured. According to director Gareth Edwards, he wanted Jurᴀssic World Rebirth to avoid the T. rex saving main characters, as it has happened so many times already.

There’s that phrase “ex machina,” where God comes and saves everyone. In Jurᴀssic, there’s something I call “rex machina,” where a T. Rex comes and saves everyone. I felt like, maybe we don’t do that. Maybe that’s one of our differences.

The 2025 film was meant to stand out from the other six movies, and this is just one way that the film attempted to be different. Jurᴀssic World Rebirth was all about subverting expectations, even if some of the expectations would have been awesome to see played out.
