Adam Sandler’s Hilarious Family Comedy & Its Sequel Are Streaming Hits On Netflix

There just seems to be something about Adam Sandler movies that allows the vast majority of them to remain timeless and the kind of films that people come back to year after year. That’s the case again as his highest-grossing live-action movie and its sequel are now trending on Netflix.

Adam Sandler movies have been a mixed bag over the years, with some being considered comedy classics and some seeing him garner Oscar buzz, and a handful, but a few ending up critically panned. Regardless of how they’re received though, Sandler’s most memorable films are the ones where he has fun castmates to play off of.

Although Adam Sandler is known for putting his comedic friends into several of his movies, none do a better job of it than the film that’s currently among the top 10 on Netflix’s trending chart. It’s Sandler and his many buddies at their best.

Grown Ups Is A Streaming Hit

The Film & Its Sequel Are Big On Netflix

After grossing nearly $300 million worldwide upon release, Grown Ups has remained relevant over a decade later, thanks to it entering Netflix’s top 10 movies in the summer of 2025. On top of that, Netflix also has the sequel, Grown Ups 2, which is also trending on the streaming platform.

The film was initially released in 2010 and focuses on a group of five lifelong friends (Sandler, Rob Schneider, Kevin James, Chris Rock, and David Spade) who reunite after decades following the death of their old high school basketball coach. The film trending in summer 2025 is good news for Sandler.

On July 24th, 2025, Netflix is releasing the much-anticipated Happy Gilmore 2 (the first film has actually been on the service for a while) and the fact that Grown Ups is trending shows that there’s still high demand for Sandler. This bodes well for the success of Happy Gilmore 2.

Why You Should Watch Grown Ups

It’s Just A Good Time

When Grown Ups was released, critics were very negative about it, as it sits at 10% on Rotten Tomatoes despite the strong box office numbers. The sequel is even lower on RT at just 8% but the Popcornmeter (audience score) for both are 62% and 53%, which are much more positive scores.

You can tell that these actors all had a blast making the movie together and that feeling is infectious from the very beginning.

This ultimately shows that even if Grown Ups and its sequel aren’t great films, watching them is still a great time. Seeing these actors have fun with each other, along with the supporting cast including Salma Hayek and Maya Rudolph, is enough to make the movies worth watching.

You can tell that these actors all had a blast making the movie together and that feeling is infectious from the very beginning. Some aspects can be crude for sure but that’s a staple of Sandler’s movies with his friends and if you liked those in the past, Grown Ups is for you.
