Galactus is after Franklin Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and there is a very simple explanation for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to follow that storyline. The live-action Fantastic Four movies have ranged from fun to downright terrible. That is why Marvel has to ensure that its reboot of the team is as exciting as fans expect.
By using a comics-accurate Galactus, Marvel is showing that it wants to fix the past errors in the franchise with The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ cast of characters. Interestingly, the movie will be the first to introduce Franklin Richards, the son of Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards and Vanessa Kirby”s Sue Storm. In doing so, Franklin will be tied to Galactus.
Franklin Richards Is One Of The Most Powerful Beings In Marvel’s Multiverse
The MCU’s Power Rankings Are About To Change Forever
The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ latest trailer revealed that Galactus asked the team for Franklin in exchange for sparing Earth. While Marvel has yet to explain why the MCU’s Galactus would trade an entire planet for a single being, the comics show why he could do it. In Marvel Comics, Franklin Richards is extremely powerful, being able to manipulate reality.
Even as a baby, like Franklin is in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, his powers were immense, with Franklin creating a pocket universe without even knowing what he was doing. As one of Marvel’s most interesting mutants, Franklin has been described as “Beyond Omega.” In Marvel Comics, Omega-Level Mutants are the most powerful, but Franklin is a step above them.

In the 2015 Secret Wars storyline that inspires Avengers: Secret Wars, one of the MCU’s most anticipated movies, Franklin helps create the new multiverse after Doctor Doom is defeated. Franklin Richards is easily one of Marvel’s most powerful characters, being able to reshape reality, create new universes, blast enemies, and more. His powers make him an ᴀsset for MCU Galactus.

Marvel Studios Is Seemingly Bringing That Connection To The MCU
Beyond the fact that Fraklin could create new universes and planets for Galactus to devour in the MCU, the two characters are deeply connected in the comics, which could inform why Galactus wants the baby in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The MCU movie will feature Shalla-Bal, the female Silver Surfer, as Galactus’ herald.

In the comics, Franklin’s power is such that he is the one to make Galactus his herald, not the other way around. Franklin has resurrected Galactus, defeated the Celestials alongside him, resurrected Galactus, and more in their shared history. In the Earth X comics, Franklin even becomes Galactus. As such, The Fantastic Four: First Steps tying the two together makes sense.
