Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Big Difference To No Way Home & “Mᴀssive” Set Piece Teased By Tom Holland

Tom Holland opens up on how Spider-Man: Brand New Day will bring a refreshing experience for the Marvel Cinematic Universe star after Spider-Man: No Way Home. While he has been missing from the MCU timeline since December 2021, Peter Parker is getting closer to finally getting his next adventure in the franchise.

As Spider-Man: Brand New Day filming is getting closer and closer, fans are actively waiting to learn what is in store for the beloved web-crawler. Given how Spider-Man: No Way Home ended, it seems Peter will be on his own in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as he navigates life without anyone knowing who he is anymore.

In a recent interview with Flip Your Wig, Tom Holland opened up about getting ready to start principal pH๏τography on Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Holland explained that one of the things he is most excited for about Brand New Day is more “old-school filmmaking,” as the actor shared the following:

Obviously, over the moon, I am so excited to play Spider-Man [again,] it’s like hanging out with an old pal. We were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID. We sH๏τ the entire film on stages. Now we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we are starting in Glasgow. We are gonna use the streets of Glasgow for this mᴀssive set piece that we are putting together, so it is going to feel like making Spider-Man 1 again. It’s been such a long time since I have done it, it’s going to feel like a breath of fresh air. I think that fans are going to be over the moon of what we are pulling together.

Despite being released in theaters during COVID-19, Spider-Man: No Way Home became the highest-grossing movie at the 2021 box office, as it earned $1.9 billion worldwide. Spider-Man: No Way Home is also the most profitable MCU film in the entire Multiverse Saga, with 2024’s ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine being ranked the second highest, following its $1.3 billion gross.

What Tom Holland’s Comments Mean For Spider-Man: Brand New Day

While Spider-Man: No Way Home may have been one of the MCU’s biggest hits, it definitely was also one of the most challenging productions for Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, given the state of the COVID-19 pandemic at the time. With circumstances around the pandemic having changed since then, Spider-Man: Brand New Day appears to be in a stronger position when it comes to navigating filming.

Based on Holland’s commentary, it sounds as though the wait will have been worth it, though details about the Spider-Man: Brand New Day story are still being kept under wraps. Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton is also set to helm Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which seems set to add even more refreshing elements to Holland’s MCU sequel.

After hearing Holland’s comments about going back to a more traditional filming process for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, time will tell what the mysterious set piece they are building right now ends up being. Combined with the reveals of new cast additions like Sadie Sink and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, there is a lot to look forward to with the 2026 installment.

The bigger question, however, is who else may also be joining the Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast, as there are bound to be a few more actors added before production starts. Once Spider-Man: Brand New Day starts filming next month, there will hopefully be more clues shared about what is in store for the Phase 6 installment.
