M3GAN 2.0 Digital Release Date Revealed, Includes Unrated Cut & Over 30 Minutes Of Bonus Content

M3GAN 2.0‘s digital release date has been revealed. The Blumhouse sequel continues the story of the тιтular AI robot introduced in the hit 2023 film M3GAN. It sees the return of several lead cast members, including Allison Williams, Jenna Davis, Amie Donald, and Violet McGraw, and adds cast members including Jemaine Clement and Ivanna Sakhno.

The sequel’s box office vastly underperformed when compared to the original’s totals. At the time of writing, M3GAN 2.0 has made just $36.4 million worldwide. This is only slightly more than M3GAN‘s domestic box office opening ($30.4 million), and far less than the first movie’s $180 million worldwide gross.

As per Universal, the digital release date has been revealed for M3GAN 2.0. It will arrive on digital starting on Tuesday, July 15. This is not just any M3GAN 2.0, however, but an unrated cut of the film that features a version not seen in theaters. There will also be 30 minutes of exclusive bonus content.

The unrated version is only available when the film is purchased. The digital release will be followed by a 4K and Blu-ray release a few months later on September 23.

What This Means For M3GAN 2.0

The First Film Also Released An Unrated Version

The original M3GAN had a similar post-theatrical release strategy. Just a month after the movie initially hit theaters in January 2023, an unrated version of M3GAN was released on Peacock. While this cut promised to be gorier than the theatrical version, it was not that different from what audiences saw in theaters.

So far, Universal has not announced any plans to release the unrated version on streaming. In fact, the company has not revealed any streaming release date for the M3GAN sequel as of now. When the film releases on streaming, it is still possible that the unrated version will also be made available.

In addition to the unrated version, the 30 minutes of bonus features include some intriguing content. This includes a behind-the-scenes feature on the making of M3GAN 2.0, as well as a feature called “Scene Breakdown: Embrace AI Convention.” These features will allow at-home audiences a closer look at M3GAN 2.0.

Our Take On M3GAN 2.0’s Digital Release Plan

The Unrated Cut Should Up The Gore

M3GAN 2.0 was released in theaters on June 27. This means that the film will have had less than one month of theatrical exclusivity before becoming digitally available. This short window is a testament to how poorly the film did at the box office overall.

It will be interesting to see how much the M3GAN 2.0 unrated version changes the content, considering the first one was not all that different. The theatrical cut includes some violent moments, but shies away from blood and gore in order to maintain the PG-13 rating. More over-the-top gore could perhaps increase the campiness of M3GAN 2.0, which could be a welcome improvement.
