Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Superman.Superman opens the door for future DC Universe projects, and one secret role in the movie has made me more excited about Jason Momoa’s Lobo. The movies of the old DCEU had their fair share of issues. However, quite a few castings in the franchise were top-notch, and so I am happy to see a major actor like Momoa return.
While he will not be playing Aquaman, Momoa will star as Lobo in DC Studios’ next movie, 2026’s Supergirl. The character has clashed with the Man of Steel in the past, but Lobo was not one of the characters who appeared in the DCU’s first film before the Superman movie’s credits rolled. Still, one moment made me more excited for Momoa’s Lobo.
Superman’s Secret Cameo Teases The DC Universe’s Next Movie
The DC Universe’s First Movie Had Quite A Few Cameos
There are many surprise cameos and Easter eggs in James Gunn’s Superman. Near the end of the movie, Milly Alcock’s Supergirl makes her debut. The film presents a different take on the Girl of Steel, with Supergirl arriving drunk at the Fortress of Solitude. After a brief exchange with her cousin, Superman, Supergirl takes off with Krypto, revealed as her dog.
Alcock’s Supergirl debut makes a lot of sense. The cameo sets up the story of DC’s Supergirl movie, which is based on the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comics. That story sees a different version of Kara Zor-El, as she had a darker upbringing in comparison to Superman. That explains why she goes to planets with red suns to get drunk.
Supergirl’s Debut Sets Her Up To Be Similar To Jason Momoa’s Lobo
The Two Characters Should Fit Well Together In The DCU
As a fan of Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, I was surprised by the announcement that Jason Momoa would play Lobo in the Supergirl movie. That is due to how Lobo was not in the comics that inspired the movie. That said, after Supergirl’s cameo in James Gunn’s Superman movie, I’m confident Lobo’s inclusion is perfect.

Milly Alcock’s Supergirl behaved a lot like Lobo in the brief scene she had in Superman. With David Corenswet’s Man of Steel explaining to the Superman Robots — and the audience — how she is a party girl, it is clear that this side of the character will be spotlighted in 2026’s Supergirl. Lobo thrives in that kind of reckless and irreverent territory.

With multiple bounty hunters in the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comics, Lobo could fit the storyline that way. However, by making Alcock’s Supergirl more in line with his personality, DC opens the door for the two characters to tonally fit together, and Supergirl and Lobo could team up in the DCU movie. Superman makes her a perfect match for Lobo.
