With the release of 28 Years Later, the story that continues something that began over 20 years ago, a scene from 28 Days Later reveals how Jim (Cillian Murphy) could return in the next movie, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
28 Days Later was released in 2003 and had one of the greatest opening scenes in horror movie history when Jim left a hospital to find London abandoned.
28 Days Later had Jim finding other survivors and creating a small found family as they fought for survival. However, while the group was traveling and hiding from the infected, Jim had a nightmare that revealed his greatest fear. This fear is something that could lead to Jim’s return in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, with horrifying implications.
Jim Dreams About Frank & Hannah Leaving, Or Being Taken, In 28 Days Later
Jim’s Nightmare Reveals His Greatest Fear
The 28 Days Later dream scene is disorienting as Jim wakes up and finds himself alone. This was concerning because he was with his found family of survivors: Selena (Naomie Harris), Frank (Brendan Gleeson), and Frank’s daughter, Hannah (Megan Burns). He races outside, screaming for everyone, and they are all gone, with him alone in the field.
The feeling was that they abandoned him, or even worse, that they were taken by the infected or the human villains in the movie. However, the fear remains short-lived because he is dreaming, and Frank comforts him by ᴀssuring him that everything is okay. Alas, it showed Jim’s deep-seated fears of being alone.
Jim’s Dream Represents The Fear Of Losing His New Family
Jim Finished 28 Days Later With Two Of His New Family Still Alive
Jim, being alone in the nightmare and panicking, displayed his fear of losing the family he had gained in a short time since leaving the hospital. Jim saw what it was like to be alone; he had lost everyone close to him, and he couldn’t bear to lose anyone else. However, that also foreshadowed what was about to happen when Frank quickly died.
After the group moved on, Frank ended up infected when blood dripped into his eye. Before he could change, soldiers showed up and gunned him down, killing him. This left Jim with Selena and Hannah, but things only got worse. They went with the soldiers to a compound where they learned they were luring females there to Sєxually ᴀssault them.
Jim went from running from and occasionally fighting the infected to fighting evil survivors, which is what zombie movies and TV shows usually focus on. By the end of 28 Days Later, Jim escaped with injury, but wasn’t infected. At the end, he’s in a field with Selena and Hannah, seeing a chance for rescue when a jet flies overhead.
Jim’s Dream Sets Up What Might Happen If He Loses The People He Loves
The 28 Days Later Sequel Never Shows What Happened To Jim
In 28 Weeks Later, none of these characters returned. Jim, Selena, and Hannah were nowhere to be seen. This movie took place several weeks after the events of the last film. It shows that Great Britain got things under control and isolated the virus, and the rest of the country was starting to move on.
However, there were still people in the infected areas, and this movie followed those new survivors. What 28 Weeks Later never revealed was what happened to Jim, Selena, and Hannah. This was also not addressed in 28 Years Later, and there is still no idea what happened to Jim and his newfound family.
This leads to the upcoming 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. In 28 Years Later, it was shown that there is likely a human villain, as well as a more advanced and dangerous version of the infected. This leads one to wonder what Jim would do if he lost his newfound family from 28 Days Later.
Jim Being 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’s Villain Would Be A Great Twist
If Jim Loses Everything, He Could Go Full Villain
The entire lead-up to 28 Years Later had fans wondering if Jim would be back. Cillian Murphy didn’t deny anything, and some thought he might be one of the infected in the trailers. That didn’t happen, but something big will happen in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. The first 28 Years Later movie featured the Bone Temple.
It also showed that 28 Years Later has a new Alpha, a mutated infected who leads others. He is larger, stronger, and more intelligent, making it seem like they are not only adapting but growing to the point where they could be more dangerous than ever and possibly even start to take over if given the chance.

The Bone Temple is where Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) places the bones of the bodies he burned (called the menento mori), and he has control over the Alpha, who he named Samson. When the film ends, Spike is saved by a gang who are affiliated with the mysterious Jimmy Savile (Jack O’Connell).
The question now lies in determining who the heroes and villains will be in the next movie. If Jim was never rescued, there is a chance that both Selena and Hannah could have died, leaving him alone. If that happened, and Jim realized his biggest fear, the best twist possible could make Jim the next 28 Years Later villain.
