The Peaky Blinders movie keeps teasing exciting details to keep audiences on the edge of their seats with anticipation, and some recent comments from a leading member of the show’s cast have certainly done just that. Although it hasn’t been confirmed that Tom Hardy will be returning to Peaky Blinders for the sequel movie, the actor has repeatedly expressed interest in reprising his iconic role, Alfie Solomons.
However, I’m not entirely convinced that Hardy’s return will be as all-encompᴀssing to the narrative. Alfie was mostly absent from the final season of Peaky Blinders, though he made a brief appearance in the final episode, where it was implied that he had something to do with Tommy’s master plan. This could tie into The Immortal Man plot, but I’m cautiously optimistic about his role in the narrative.
Tom Hardy’s Alfie Will Probably Only Have A Cameo In The Peaky Blinders Movie
If Hardy Appears At All, It Likely Won’t Be For Long
Ultimately, it’s unlikely that Alfie will have a major role in the Peaky Blinders movie simply because his character arc has already been wrapped up in a meaningful, satisfying way. Season 6 clearly knew that meddling with his previously established ending wasn’t a good idea, and it’s unlikely The Immortal Man will now backtrack on that decision.
Additionally, it hasn’t even been confirmed that Hardy will make an appearance in the project. Nothing has been officially announced, and Hardy’s comments prove nothing more than the actor’s enthusiasm to get involved. It’s definitely possible that Steven Knight will manage to weave him into the story, but the most likely outcome is that his return will be little more than a cameo.
Peaky Blinders’ Spinoff Could Give Tom Hardy’s Alfie A Bigger Role
Alfie Could Be A Surprise Protagonist Of The Upcoming Series
Thankfully, The Immortal Man isn’t the only upcoming Peaky Blinders project where Alfie could show his face. The show’s creators are currently working on a spinoff series that will take place several years after the conclusion of the main show, primarily set in Boston, Mᴀssachusetts.
Very few details have been announced regarding the actual plot, but there’s every possibility that Alfie will make an appearance, given how interested he was in the Shelby family’s business empire in New England.
This seems like a much more suitable candidate for his return; The Immortal Man is clearly going to be Tommy’s story, and there shouldn’t be too many scene-stealing side characters to distract from that. The Boston spinoff probably won’t center around Tommy, since he returned home to Birmingham at the end of Peaky Blinders, meaning that Alfie would have much more room to shine.
