Sonic the Hegehog 4 is set for release in spring 2027, and the new film has the perfect opportunity to show off more of the тιтular hero’s greatest powers. With Sonic 4 being teased to feature details pulled directly from Sonic CD, there is an extensive library of excellent abilities that could be featured within this next chapter.
The story of Sonic 4 could go a number of different ways. The first Sonic game was released in 1991 on Sega Genesis, but the character has been used in all kinds of mediums since. From Sonic movies and animated shows to video games in various genres, there are so many directions the new movie could go.
Many different video game elements have not yet been seen in Sonic, and the fourth film could be the perfect place to change that. With a live-action franchise that has skewed closer to the games with each installment, this upcoming film will likely feel the truest yet to the source material.

Sonic Superstars’ Blue Emerald Avatar Power
Superstars Saw A Whole Bunch Of Sonics Run Across The Screen
Sonic Superstars is one of the most interesting Sonic games in recent years, and it puts a colorful, modern finish on a brand new side-scrolling adventure. One of the most interesting elements of the game, other than its cast of characters including Amy Rose, is the different abilities that are granted by the Chaos Emeralds.
This jumble of Sonic clones could be an exciting flourish in the next film, and could add to some great fights.
Most especially, the Blue Emerald’s Avatar power could be a great visual in Sonic 4. In the game, this sees the screen fill with copies of the hero joining together, fighting off all visible enemies. This jumble of Sonic clones could be an exciting flourish in the next film, and could add to some great fights.

Incredible Sword-Fighting With His Magical Sword Caliburn
Sonic And The Black Knight Combined Sonic And King Arthur
A strange entry in the Sonic canon, Sonic and the Black Knight was released for the Wii during a period when Sonic struggled to resonate with mainstream audiences. The 2009 game was the second entry in Sega’s Sonic Storybook series, and it featured Sonic wielding a magical sword.
Sonic joins forces with Caliburn, his talking sword, and the two fight to restore order to their mystical setting. This added an interesting play style to the game, as the sword was swung by using the Wii remote’s motion controls.
Sonic 4 could use elements of this story and give Sonic a unique weapon in the new film. Building a character around that same weapon could help to make the next entry feel uniquely different, and there are certainly ways Caliburn could be utilized effectively in the film.

Laser Blasts That Come From Rock And Roll
Sonic Underground Saw A New Kind Of Hero
The Sonic movie franchise has not yet featured the rock-and-roll spirit that dominated many of the character’s appearances in the late 1990s and the 2000s. Sonic Underground was an unusual television series that saw Sonic forming a rock band with his siblings.
In the show, Sonic wore a medallion that was given to him by his Royal mother before she went into hiding. The necklace could transform into a vibrant neon guitar shaped like Sonic’s head, and he used this as a weapon to fight back against the villains.
While the new film is unlikely to adapt Sonic Underground too faithfully, it would be exciting to see Sonic play the guitar in the sequel. Using that guitar as a weapon in his fight against the villains could be an interesting way to call back to this classic series.

Manipulating Time Through Chaos Control
The Power Has Appeared Regularly Since Sonic Adventure 2
Chaos Control has appeared multiple times throughout the series, and its use has transformed a few times to suit the story. With theories suggesting Sonic 4 could use time travel, the new film could be the perfect way to show off this incredible power.
First used to travel long distances, Chaos Control has been an incredible power that taps into time and space, allowing for the manipulation of reality. Using the Chaos Emeralds in this manner seems inevitable in the new film. With Metal Sonic as the antagonist, Sonic’s ability to travel through time using Chaos Control would be the best way to fight back.

Hyper Sonic Transformation From Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Like Super Sonic, But Even More Powerful
Hyper Sonic is a unique transformation in the Sonic franchise, as it has only appeared once in any of the games. The transformation is even greater than Sonic’s transformation into Super Sonic, and sees the character’s color flash through the different patterns of the emeralds.
Hyper Sonic would be hard to justify onscreen, as it is really just a stronger version of the Super Sonic formula. In the games, it gives Sonic the ability to flash his enemies off of the screen, as well as to breathe underwater. These differentiations may not feel significant enough from Super Sonic in the next film.
Super Sonic, the precursor to the Hyper Sonic state, has been seen with many different versions of the character, beginning all the way back in 1992’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
However, the design itself is something special. Changing colors in a flashing order, including green, pink, and yellow, this version of Sonic looks incredible and could make for a great visual in the next film. As an upgrade on the transformations already seen, this could be a great addition to Sonic 4.

Turning To Liquid With The Cyan Emerald
Another Compelling Ability For The Blue Blur
The Cyan Emerald from Sonic Superstars allows Sonic to turn into water. This allows for unique water movement in the game, and could make for an interesting addition to the next Sonic film. This power gives an unusual blue look to the character that would work well as an exciting ability with a distinct look.
Water levels in Sonic games are frustrating, but they are a core part of them. These should be given some exploration in the new films, and using Emeralds to bestow unusual powers in those contexts could help to better represent their powers as well. Using various Emerald abilities like these could help to differentiate each one in the films.
2
Traveling The Shatterverse With The Paradox Prism
Sonic Prime Paved A Fresh Path To Interdimensional Travel
Like several different Sonic stories, the hit Netflix series Sonic Prime saw the hero being shuttled into another dimension. As this looks likely to be a part of the new film, with interesting links to Amy Rose and Metal Sonic, the same devices could be used for this in the upcoming Sonic 4.
With exciting Sonic characters given new designs in the Shatterverse, the next film could follow this same pattern. With Sonic traveling through space by breaking the Paradox Prism, he could be brought into a new world that sees familiar characters with unique twists.
There could be different versions of Tom and Maddie, as well as new, interesting takes on Knuckles and Shadow the Hedgehog. This might be the best possible way that the new film could move forward, and would feel satisfyingly familiar to fans of the recent popular Netflix show.

The Werehog Transformation
Sonic Unleashed Provided An Unusual Version Of The Hedgehog
One of the most unusual games in the series, Sonic Unleashed took a big swing by giving Sonic two distinct iterations within the same game. Some of the levels were fast-moving platformers, as is expected in Sonic games, while the rest saw the Hedgehog transform into a Werehog.
This is the best power that could feature in the next movie.
Like a werewolf, this version of Sonic was tougher and stronger, bearing sharp teeth and claws. The visual was a strange one, but what was even more surprising was that it worked. Sonic Unleashed is one of the most underrated games in the series, and could be a great inspiration for the new film.
With compelling ideas of duality, introducing the Werehog would feel like an enormous swing in Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Most importantly, though, the power is one that is well liked by fans of the series, and could help make the new film feel distinct and interesting. This is the best power that could feature in the next movie.
