Chris Pratt’s New Sequel To $257 Million Success Is Another Win For Him After Casting Outrage

A sequel to 2024’s The Garfield Movie movie is officially happening, with the upcoming The Garfield Movie 2 being a major win for the actor after his casting outrage. Chris Pratt has been part of some major franchises like Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurᴀssic World, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Garfield‘s unexpected success has made it the latest entry in this long list.

The Garfield franchise has already been adapted plenty of times before, most notably in the live-action Bill Murray movie series, and 2024’s The Garfield Movie was the latest attempt. Starring Chris Pratt as the тιтular lasagna-loving cat, the film made $257.2 million against a budget of $60 million, although its critical reception wasn’t as impressive.

Thanks to the first film’s box office success, The Garfield Movie 2 has been officially announced. Chris Pratt is set to return as Garfield, although there is still no word on if the director, writers, or anyone else from the first movie will return. While there are still a lot of questions surrounding the film, The Garfield Movie 2‘s announcement is big news for Garfield fans.

Garfield 2 Happening Officially Proves The Outrage For Chris Pratt’s Casting Didn’t Hurt The First Film

The Garfield Movie Was Still A Box Office Success

The biggest controversy surrounding the first The Garfield Movie was the addition of Chris Pratt in the тιтle role. Pratt has been the subject of casting controversies before, most notably for his role as Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Some viewers complain that Chris Pratt mostly just does his normal voice, making him an odd choice for characters like Garfield.

When The Garfield Movie‘s trailers were released, it was clear that Pratt would again be mostly sticking to his own voice. While there were some minor changes, he was obviously not attempting to recreate the iconic Lorenzo Music Garfield voice that was continued by actors like Frank Welker and Bill Murray.

Despite these casting controversies, The Garfield Movie still did incredibly well. This could be drawn up to the fact that The Garfield Movie was targeted at younger audiences, meaning that they wouldn’t care about the accuracy of Chris Pratt’s Garfield voice.

Chris Pratt is also a huge name to be able to use in marketing, with him probably pulling a lot of parents to take their kids to The Garfield Movie. Pratt’s role as Garfield is just the latest immensely successful animated movie to star the actor, following up on The LEGO Movie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and hopefully The Garfield Movie‘s sequel will continue this trend.
