New Colleen Hoover Adaptation Starring Anne Hathaway Delays Release Date By 5 Months

An upcoming adaptation of a Colleen Hoover novel, which stars Anne Hathaway, has just had its theatrical release date pushed. Hoover is an American novelist who is best known for her work in the romance genre, particularly her 2016 release It Ends With Us.

It Ends With Us was recently adapted into a feature film starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, which ended up becoming a major hit at the box office. The film benefited greatly from a degree of virality due to behind-the-scenes issues involving Lively and Baldoni, the latter of whom also served as director, with the clash eventually turning into a highly publicized legal battle.

Feud aside, It Ends With Us grossed a staggering $351 million worldwide, and the success has guaranteed that there are more adaptations of Hoover’s books to come. There are now three more movies based on her work currently in the pipeline, and all are set to feature some impressive star power.

The Hoover books set to be adapted include Regretting You, a mother-daughter-focused story released in 2019, and Reminders of Him, a story about a mother’s redemption released in 2022. A third тιтle is also set for the big screen, with Hathaway taking a starring role.

Verity’s Release Date Gets Bumped

The Colleen Hoover Film Moves To A Familiar Window

A new report reveals that Verity will now be landing in theaters later than expected. Directed by Michael Showalter, the upcoming adaptation of the 2018 Hoover book of the same stars Hathaway as Verity Crawford, a mysterious author unable to finish her latest novel after an accident.

The Verity cast features Dakota Johnson costarring as Lowen Ashleigh, the film’s main character, a ghostwriter hired to finish Verity’s latest novel who eventually unearths some dark secrets. Josh Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Brady Wagner, and Michael Abott Jr. also star.

Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Amazon MGM Studios has now moved Verity‘s release date from May 15, 2026, to October 2, 2026. No reason for the delay was included in the report, but this new release date puts it in the same window as femme thriller hits like Gone Girl (2014) and The Girl on the Train (2016).

What This Means For Verity

Another Major Release Is Scheduled For The Same Day

Given the success of It Ends With Us and comparative films like Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, Verity seems poised for success in its new window. That being said, the move does change the theatrical compeтιтion it will now be facing.

The move to October 2 puts Verity head-to-head with the unтιтled Tom Cruise and Alejandro G. Iňárritu movie from Warner Bros, which releases on the same date. The audiences for these two movies, though, seem likely to be quite different, meaning this may not end up being too great a factor. Much still remains unknown about the latter тιтle.

The upcoming Cruise movie is highly anticipated and features an impressive supporting cast, including John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, Riz Ahmed, and Emma D’Arcy.

So far, Verity has not experienced the same behind-the-scenes issues of It Ends With Us. This is obviously good news for those involved with the production, but the film evidently has its work cut out for it in terms of becoming a similar kind of viral sensation.
