Superman Breaks James Gunn’s Superhero Box Office Record In Thursday Previews

Superman is already breaking box office records, the first concerning James Gunn’s Thursday preview figures. James Gunn’s Superman movie has pressure on it to succeed. As the first installment in the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters and a reboot of the Superman franchise, this pressure faces it on all fronts. However, it seems as though Warner Bros. never had to worry.

As per a report by ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Superman is getting off to a soaring start at the box office based on its Thursday preview numbers. The DCU’s first movie is heading for a $21+ million haul as of Thursday evening, taking into account the preview showings on Thursday, July 10, as well as the $2+ million the film earned for Amazon Prime Video previews.

These previews were shown on Tuesday, July 8, setting the stage for Superman‘s box office success. To make matters more impressive, this $21+ million preview figure beats any of James Gunn’s past superhero movie efforts, including a behemoth like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. With preview figures such as this, Superman is on for a sky-high opening weekend.

What This Box Office Report Means For Superman

The Film Is On For A Strong Box Office Total

Concerning what this means for Superman, it seems the aforementioned pressure the film faced was not necessary. Many viewed Superman‘s success as integral to the future of the DC Universe, especially given the losses Warner Bros. made on the final few installments of the DCEU’s movie timeline.

However, Superman has eased these worries already. The $21+ million preview haul is incredibly impressive and looks to be setting Superman up for a three-day opening weekend gross that will land north of $130 million. If the overseas markets show similar figures, Superman‘s opening weekend looks to be solidifying the DCU’s strong start, both critically and commercially.

Our Take On The Superman Box Office Report

When I heard this overhaul would be handled by James Gunn, I was overjoyed. Gunn has not yet missed where comic book movies are concerned, causing me to root for Superman in a number of ways. Not only did I want the film to be good, which, based on reviews for the DCU movie, it is, but I also wanted it to be a success.

This would allow the DC Universe’s true vision to become a reality. Thankfully, Superman has surpᴀssed all of these expectations, making an already promising future for the brand seem more promising than ever.
