This Sofia Vergara Movie Is Trending On Netflix And You’ll Laugh From Start to Finish

A movie where Sofia Vergara has a lead role – Despicable Me 4 – is doing extremely well on Netflix, and for good reason. The actress is no stranger to this particular kind of film, having been involved in various family-friendly comedies, many of which are animated movies like this one.

Since the early 2010s, Sofia Vergara has been an active participant in the genre, lending her voice to multiple animated characters. After her role in 2011’s Happy Feet Two, Vergara worked on a handful of animated movies, such as Escape from Planet Earth, The Emoji Movie, and Koati.

Of those, the biggest hit was easily The Emoji Movie, but it was easily eclipsed by her most recent animated movie, as Despicable Me 4 made close to $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Despicable Me 4, a movie that sees Vergara voice a supporting character, released in theaters to become a mᴀssive success in 2024. That success is continuing on Netflix, as evidenced by its placement on its streaming charts. According to FlixPatrol, Despicable Me 4 is currently the #9 movie on Netflix in the United States.

The fourth mainline movie in the Despicable Me franchise has been available on Netflix since late February, and became a hit in short notice. It was trending globally for weeks, and though that fervor has since died down, it appears to be picking up steam once more now that it’s on the charts again in July 2025.

Despicable Me 4 continues the story of now-reformed supervillain Gru, who has grown significantly since he worked to change his ways in the first movie. In the fourth installment, he finds himself going up against someone once counted as one of his fellow villains, Maxime de Mal. Maxime and Valentina – voiced by Will Ferell and Sophia Vergara respectively – serve as the main antagonists of the story, with Gru and Maxime going from rivals to full-on enemies.

Why You Should Watch Despicable Me 4

Unlike Many Long-Running Franchises, Despicable Me Isn’t Running Out Of Steam

Despicable Me 4’s impressive box office haul of $971 million and popularity on Netflix isn’t surprising, and not just because of the general appeal of the Despicable Me franchise. The movie entertains on its own, delivering laughs from beginning to end, thanks in large part to its colorful cast of characters.

The additions of Maxime Le Mal and Valentina fit brilliantly into the world of Despicable Me and its unique style of humor.

The pair of villains’ interactions both with each other and Gru are hilarious throughout, with the movie using their own inepтιтude as villains (combined with relatable, real-world situations) to drive a number of laughs in Despicable Me 4, including a scene where Maxime and Valentia squabble over a credit card.
