Tom Hardy would have been a perfect addition to the cast of one of Guy Ritchie’s best movies, even though the actor might not have been interested in the role. Hardy and Ritchie have proven to be a solid team with the new crime series MobLand, featuring Hardy’s latest TV performance as mob fixer, Harry Da Souza.

MobLand is actually not the first time these two have worked together, as Hardy joined the likes of Gerard Butler and Idris Elba in Richie’s gangster movie RocknRolla. Despite the tonal differences between the two crime stories, as well as Hardy’s very different characters, Hardy proves he fits well into Ritchie’s distinct style.

In fact, Hardy is such a perfect actor for Ritchie’s world that it is very easy to see him perfectly fitting into the cast of one of Ritchie’s most popular movies from earlier in his career. However, Hardy’s recent comments about Ritchie’s movies suggest he wouldn’t have been too interested in the part.

Seeing Tom Hardy’s work in MobLand, it is clear that he would have been perfect for the cast of Snatch. Only Guy Ritchie’s second movie, Snatch cemented him as a stylish director and entertaining writer with this British crime story following several figures in London’s criminal underbelly with a priceless diamond at the center of it all.

Snatch was released in 2000, just before Hardy made his screen debut in the cast of Band of Brothers. However, this could have been an ideal early role for Hardy, as it is possible to see him in a variety of roles and fitting into Ritchie’s style effortlessly.

Hardy could have played either role of Turkish (Jason Statham) or Tommy (Stephen Graham), the low-level boxing promoters who find themselves indebted to a dangerous mobster. Despite being young, he had the intimidation factor to play Bullet-Tooth Tony (Vinnie Jones), the smooth bounty hunter.

In fact, it would only be four years later when Hardy took the role of Clarkie in Layer Cake, playing opposite Daniel Craig in a British gangster movie directed by Snatch producer Matthew Vaughn. While Snatch seemed like perfect casting for Hardy, we would have to wait nearly a decade for him and Ritchie to finally work together.

Hardy Shared His Honest Opinion Of Guy Ritchie’s Crime Movies

As easy as it is to picture Tom Hardy in the cast of Snatch, the actor might not have been so keen to join the classic crime movie. In a recent interview for MobLand, Hardy shared his honest thoughts on Guy Ritchie’s movies and some of the aspects he is not so fond of:

Hardy seems to be referring to the exploration of Cockney characters in Ritchie’s movies, which would certainly include Snatch. Ritchie has explored such characters in many of his movies, often linking the Cockney culture to tough and dangerous criminals. Snatch was the film that really solidified this as a popular element in Ritchie’s movies.

Hardy is rather blunt with the criticism of a filmmaker he is still working very closely with, but he does go on to express his admiration for Ritchie as a person. Indeed, Ritchie has also proven that he can be very effective moving away from his usual crime fare, especially his underrated war movie Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant.

MobLand offers a different kind of crime story from what Hardy is talking about, yet it still feels like Ritchie’s style. So while these two might not work on certain projects together, it would be nice to see them team up for another movie before too long.
