Jason Statham & Guy Ritchie’s $104 Million Remake Is Now A Hit On Hulu, Despite Mixed Reviews

Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie’s action remake has found new life on streaming, four years after it got lackluster reviews. Long an action movie icon, Jason Statham has found a comfortable niche for himself, playing high-caliber heroes in over-the-top blockbusters. With his gruff demeanor and stoic onscreen personality, Statham has set the standard for the modern action star.

Meanwhile, director Guy Ritchie has been delivering versatile blockbusters for decades, and all of his movies have a stylistic flair that elevates them above the rest. A team-up between Ritchie and Statham is like a match made in action movie heaven, and the duo have delivered a handful of classics like Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Now, nearly half a decade after the movie was released to little fanfare, Wrath of Man has suddenly become a bit of a hit on Hulu. The 2021 collaboration between Ritchie and Statham debuted to middling reviews from critics, though it did turn a tidy profit at the box office.

Flix Patrol notes that Wrath of Man has climbed all the way to the second spot on Hulu’s top 10 movie chart, losing the top spot to the original film, Riff Raff. Hulu’s chart is populated by a diverse range of films, including established classics like Dirty Dancing and lesser-known modern movies like Distant.

What This Means For Wrath Of Man

Jason Statham Is A Winner On Streaming

The success of Wrath of Man on Hulu can largely be chalked up to the popularity of its star, and Jason Statham’s movies are a consistent hit on streaming. While he often does quite well at the box office too, the easy accessibility of streaming has made movies like Wrath of Man the perfect fodder for a second life.

Had it been released earlier or later, Wrath of Man could easily have been a blockbuster on the scale of other recent Statham films like The Beekeeper.

It would be incorrect to say that the Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham vehicle was a failure, and the movie’s modest box office was indicative of the year 2021. Had it been released earlier or later, Wrath of Man could easily have been a blockbuster on the scale of other recent Statham films like The Beekeeper.

Our Take On Wrath Of Man’s Streaming Success

It’s Finally Getting The Attention It Deserves

While it may not be the best Guy Ritchie movie ever, Wrath of Man was far better than its middling reviews back in 2021. I think the film deserved to be a much bigger hit, and it was obviously held back by a sluggish box office due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The action is crisp, Jason Statham is his usual self, and it even has a bit of the playful charm that makes Guy Ritchie action films so exciting. Far worse movies have become blockbusters, and the streaming success of Wrath of Man is also indicative of its quality.
