Taylor Sheridan’s Thriller With Yellowstone Franchise Star, 35, Is More Exciting Than His Returning Shows

Taylor Sheridan‘s thriller with a Yellowstone franchise star is far more exciting than any of his returning shows. Sheridan is best known as the co-creator of the popular neo-Western series Yellowstone and its two prequels, 1883 and 1923. He has also created several streaming series for Paramount+, including Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lioness, and Landman, which will all be returning for new seasons at some point.

Another one of Sheridan’s upcoming projects is the crime thriller F.A.S.T., featuring 1923 star Brandon Sklenar. The film follows a former special forces commando who is tapped by drug enforcement officials to lead a black ops strike team against CIA-protected drug dealers. Sheridan is writing the script, with 1923 director Ben Richardson making his feature directorial debut.

As a crime thriller, F.A.S.T. not only plays to Sheridan’s strengths, but is an exciting opportunity to see one of his stories on the big screen again, which hasn’t happened in a few years and has been missed among his many TV shows.

Taylor Sheridan’s Movies Are Even Better Than His TV Shows

He Wrote Sicario & Hell Or High Water

Before becoming a television mogul, Sheridan wrote several movies, including the crime thriller Sicario, directed by Denis Villeneuve, and its sequel Sicario: Day of the Soldado, directed by Stefano Sollima. Sheridan also wrote the screenplays for the neo-Westerns Hell or High Water, directed by David Mackenzie, and Wind River, which he directed himself.

While they are certainly popular, Sherdian’s TV shows are essentially glorified soap operas and are far from the type of prestige television that wins Emmy Awards. However, for Hell or High Water, Sheridan received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay, while the movie was nominated for three other Oscars, including Best Picture.

Sheridan’s movies showcase a level of tension, nuance, and moral complexity that far surpᴀsses the more melodramatic beats of his television work. In his movies, Sheridan crafts тιԍнтly woven narratives and combines them with stark, unforgettable imagery. Unlike his sprawling television sagas, his films are leaner, more focused, and carry a cinematic weight that his series often lack.

Taylor Sheridan’s Movie Return Is Long Overdue

His Last Movie Was In 2021

Sheridan has only co-written two movies this decade, Without Remorse and Those Who Wish Me ᴅᴇᴀᴅ (both 2021), compared to his many TV shows within the same timeframe. With F.A.S.T., Sheridan is returning to the form that made him one of Hollywood’s most compelling screenwriters. While his TV empire thrives, audiences are eager to see Sheridan’s screenwriting back on the big screen, where his stories hit hardest.

F.A.S.T. releases in theaters on April 23, 2027.
