I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 Director Teases Third Original Series Star Return

Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson with a script by Robinson and Sam Lansky, I Know What You Did Last Summer is the latest horror legacy sequel to hit the big screen. The fourth film in the IKWYDLS franchise is bringing back surviving characters from the original films, like Jennifer Love Hewitt as Julie James and Freddie Prinze Jr. as Ray Bronson.

The plot pairs them alongside a fresh crop of new potential victims hoping to escape a similar killer. One popular survivor of the previous I Know What You Did Last Summer films who could also make an appearance is Brandy’s Karla Wilson, who escaped Ben Willis’ murderous rampage in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. Although she hasn’t been confirmed to be in the film by any of the promotional materials, the film’s creatives suggested that the franchise isn’t entirely done with Karla yet.

During a preview event for I Know What You Did Last Summer attended by members of the press (including Screen Rant), Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Sam Lansky were asked if there was any chance the fate of Karla would be addressed in the film. Although they were coy with their answers to Q&A moderator Danny Pellegrino’s questions, they did suggest that Karla’s fate is addressed in the film in some capacity.

Danny Pellegrino: Will we get an update on Karla? If you go on any of the message boards, we’re all dying. Will we at least maybe get an update or something?

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson: Yes.

Sam Lansky: We will see an update.

Robinson: Go see the movie!

What Brandy’s Return Would Mean For I Know What You Did Last Summer

Karla Could Become Another Legacy Character And Mentor To A New Generation Of Survivors

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer Karla Brandy 4

Karla was a memorable supporting character in the franchise and one of the relatively few named characters to escape with their lives. Similar to Julie and Ray, Karla’s experience surviving a mysterious killer could make her a useful source of information for the new characters to reach out to. She could also simply serve a proof that people can escape the Fisherman killer.

It would be another way to carry on the legacy of the earlier films, even if the sequel wasn’t as popular as the first film. Brandy has also been reestablishing herself as a presence in the horror genre following her lead role in The Front Room. It would be exciting to see her return to I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Our Take On Brandy’s Connection To The New I Know What You Did Last Summer

Brandy Will Hopefully Gets A Full Appearance Instead Of Just Being Written Out Of The Series

There’s been no suggestion that Brandy has a major role in I Know What You Did Last Summer, but it’s clear from Robinson and Lansky’s comments on the matter that her fate was important to them, too. This could mean anything from an aside that hints at Karla’s fate to a potential cameo by Brandy, confirming her present-day status quo and lingering connection to Julie.

The latter would be more exciting, as it could leave the door open for Karla to return in a larger capacity in a prospective follow-up. It’s possible that the tease only hints at Karla’s fate, or it could even be used as a means of killing her off. Karla returning to I Know What You Did Last Summer would be a fun throwback for fans of the older films, as Karla brought an enjoyable energy to the series.
