The following contains spoilers for The Old Guard 2.Quentin Tarantino’s two-part action thriller movie, Kill Bill, stars Uma Thurman as ᴀssᴀssin Beatrix Kiddo, also known as the Bride, and follows her bloody quest for revenge after she awakens from a coma, having been put there by the person she loved. Over the past 21 years, there have been confirmations and disappointments about a potential threequel, but so far, there’s no active plan to develop Kill Bill Volume 3, leaving its fate in limbo.

Thurman’s action sequences and sword fight scenes are highlights in the two-part movie. While she has gone on to star in many other movies, the star has taken a break from action roles. It wasn’t until recently that she returned to the genre with a new Netflix movie, The Old Guard 2, starring opposite Charlize Theron.

While talking to Jimmy Fallon, the Kill Bill star admitted that she stepped away from the action genre to preserve her legacy, but when the offer of The Old Guard 2 came along, she saw an opportunity to return. In the same interview, the actor also revealed that Theron’s performance in the first movie was what drew her to the villainous role.

She Plays The Main Antagonist

Adapted from Greg Rucka’s graphic novel of the same name, the 2020 Netflix Original film sees a team of immortal mercenaries fighting to keep their idenтιтy a secret while stumbling upon a new member. The new sequel takes place after the events in the original movie and sees Thurman’s first Immortal, Discord, on a personal mission, going against Andy (Cheron) and her team.

The new Netflix movie not only features a Bride-esque sword fight toward the end but also sets Thurman as the main antagonist in the franchise. By not killing her off at the end of the movie, The Old Guard 2 seemingly sets up a third movie, where Andy will go and face Discord again to rescue her teammates. If it gets a follow-up, the audience will likely see more sword fights between Thurman and Theron.

Will Kill Bill 3 Ever Actually Happen?

Not Anytime Soon, But Never Say Never

Things are not looking good for the long-awaited threequel, with Tarantino currently working on his 10th movie, which is also expected to conclude his filmography. In 2023, the director shut down the idea of Kill Bill: Volume 3 while talking to DeMorgen, sharing that he intended his last movie to be about a film critic in the ’70s.

However, much has changed since then. The Movie Critic was scrapped, with Tarantino reportedly changing his mind about the project. He has also teamed up with David Fincher, who will direct the Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood spinoff with his script. It does look like things can change very quickly, very soon. While there’s currently no plan to revive Kill Bill, that doesn’t mean it can’t happen.
