Sydney Sweeney Addresses Margot Robbie Sister Casting Speculation

Sydney Sweeney speaks about whether she would step in to play Barbie’s sister in Barbie 2. Starring Margot Robbie as the тιтular doll, the 2023 movie was an extreme success, making over $1.4 billion and smashing generous box office predictions.

This huge success has led to speculation about a Barbie sequel film. As of the most recent updates, however, Barbie 2 has not been confirmed. Given the first movie’s success, it seems the film would be a big priority for Warner Bros, but director Greta Gerwig hasn’t been totally on board with another movie.

Per Bustle, Sweeney was asked whether she would want to play a part in Barbie 2. Specifically, she was asked whether she would be willing to play Barbie’s sister. The actor admitted that she would want to “read a script” first, but says she “would not be opposed to it.” Check out Sweeney’s full quote below:

“I’d have to read a script, but I’m a huge, huge fan of Margot Robbie, so I would not be opposed to it.”

What This Would Mean For Sydney Sweeney & Barbie 2

This Could Be Good For Sweeney’s Career

Sweeney has had a fast rise to fame over the past few years. She rose to greater prominence after her roles in The White Lotus season 1 and Euphoria. In that time, she became extremely popular among audiences. As such, Sweeney might be a draw for a Barbie sequel. She might pull an even younger audience than Robbie does, thus continuing to expand the toy film’s fan base.

The first Barbie had a great cast, so the second movie would have to extend this ensemble. Doing Barbie 2 could also be a great movie in Sweeney’s career. While she has been in movies, she has not been in a lot of blockbuster films so far. The Barbie sequel would almost certainly be a summer hit, so it could help Sweeney grow her film career.

Our Take On A Sweeney Barbie 2 Appearance

Sweeney Could Be The Perfect Choice

Thinking on a more meta scale, casting Sweeney as Barbie’s sister could be the perfect choice. As a young woman working in acting, Sweeney has often been Sєxualized in the early part of her career. The same can be said for the original designs of Barbie dolls, which promote this “perfect” (and unattainable) body type.

As a movie, Barbie tries to disrupt the status quo surrounding how popular dolls are portrayed. They include both actors, like Robbie, who has a more conventional “Barbie body type,” and those outside that mold. Given her reputation and image, casting Sweeney in Barbie 2 could be a particularly interesting way for the sequel to comment on body image.
