The Rotten Tomatoes score for Superman is finally here, and it matches an MCU movie that grossed over $2 billion. James Gunn’s Superman movie is perhaps the most anticipated movie of the year. As both the first installment of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters and a reboot of the Man of Steel, many are hoping for its success.
As per Rotten Tomatoes‘ official page for the DCU film, Superman sits at an 85% approval rating from critics. This is from 110 reviews, meaning 85% of those critiques of the film gave it a positive review. To make this even more exciting, Superman‘s 85% score matches that of Avengers: Infinity War, a film that crossed the $2 billion threshold in 2018.
While Superman‘s score is likely to fluctuate given that more reviews will pour in over the coming days, this initial score is a great sign of the film’s quality. To match something like Avengers: Infinity War, which many consider one of the MCU’s best movies, is no small feat.
What Superman’s RT Score Matching Avengers: Infinity War Means
The Future Looks Bright For Kal-El
Superman‘s Rotten Tomatoes score matching that of Avengers: Infinity War can only mean one thing: the DCU is off to a very good start. Avengers: Infinity War‘s status among the MCU’s movie rankings only goes to show how much Superman may resonate with audiences if an equal percentage of critics gave both positive reviews.
Although the matching RT scores do not mean Superman will match Avengers: Infinity War‘s $2 billion gross, or even hit $1 billion, for that matter, it at least proves there is momentum going into the former’s opening weekend; Critics are enjoying Superman as much as one of the biggest superhero movies ever made, which only bodes well for its worldwide theatrical opening.
Our Take On Superman’s RT Score Matching Avengers: Infinity War
For me personally, I am very happy to see Superman‘s score matching Avengers: Infinity War‘s. After all, I think the latter deserved a much higher score, in that I believe more critics should have given it a positive review. Of course, movie opinions are subjective, but many would agree with me that Infinity War is one of the MCU’s best.
If Superman is receiving a similar, at the moment equal, level of acclaim as Avengers: Infinity War, it can only bode well for the DCU’s first official movie. The high review score proves that the years of hype and anticipation were not going to be wasted on a mediocre movie.
Thankfully, Superman is resonating with critics and will hopefully do the same with audiences, just as Avengers: Infinity War did.
