Sinners reaches an impressive and final global box office milestone despite now being available to stream. Ryan Coogler’s critically acclaimed horror movie began streaming on Max as of July 4. In addition to Sinners‘ stellar reviews, the Michael B. Jordan-led film has also been a mᴀssive box office success.
It is the highest-grossing original movie of the 2020s, and is also the top-earning original movie of the last 15 years. The movie also made $100 million in nine days, reached $200 million during its fourth week in theaters, and later went on to surpᴀss $300 million as well.
According to The Numbers, Sinners has now grossed $365.7 million worldwide. This final milestone also makes it the fifth highest-grossing horror movie of all time at the worldwide box office, and is only outranked by the 2017 adaptation of It, Steven Spielberg’s Jaws, It: Chapter Two, and The Exorcist (via The Numbers).
What This Means For Sinners
Sinners’ Box Office Continued To Stay Strong
Even though it became available for digital purchase in June and is now on streaming, Sinners‘ box office numbers have continued to be strong and have helped further cement it as a beloved horror movie. The ability to watch Coogler’s thought-provoking vampire story at home did not get in the way of audiences continuing to watch it in theaters.
Many movies, especially in the horror genre, rarely perform well both critically and commercially. Sinners is a unique case where it has performed remarkably well in both areas, and interest has not waned nearly three months after the theatrical debut.
The Michael B. Jordan movie is a testament to the power of original filmmaking and that audiences will still go to the theaters for stories that are not connected to a popular franchise or well-known IP. When a movie is as cinematic and unique as Sinners, audiences will continue to watch it on the big screen months later.
Our Take On Sinners’ Final Box Office Milestone
It Is A Good Sign For The Future
With Sinners easily being one of my favorite movies so far of 2025, I am thrilled to see how it has resonated with critics and general audiences. Bold movies like this often struggle to find mainstream success, especially at the box office, but that has not been the case this time.
Sinners has derailed the narrative that only franchise and IP-driven movies can succeed now in theaters. I hope that more studios will be willing to take a chance on original storytelling built on a strong creative vision, with Sinners showing that, in the right hands, it can be incredibly profitable and popular.
