Chris Pratt’s New Sci-Fi Movie Has A Big Advantage Over Recent Misfires Thanks To This Star

Chris Pratt‘s new sci-fi movie has one big advantage over his recent misfires, thanks to this star. Since his breakout role as Andy Dwyer in the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation, Pratt has become best known for sci-fi movies, including his two biggest franchises, playing Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Owen Grady in the Jurᴀssic World trilogy, which could both be categorized under that genre.

However, in recent years, Pratt has starred in a series of sci-fi misfires, starting infamously with Pᴀssengers, which was panned for its fatally flawed story. This trend has also permeated Pratt’s streaming releases, including the Amazon Original movie, The Tomorrow War, which received mixed reviews from critics calling it a forgettable film. Most recently, Pratt starred in Netflix’s The Electric State, which has a dismal 14% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Pratt is looking to turn this trend around with his new sci-fi movie, which has a major advantage over his recent series of misfires thanks to the presence of one star.

Chris Pratt’s Mercy Co-Stars Rebecca Ferguson, Who Has Dominated Recent Sci-Fi

She Stars In Dune & Silo

Chris Pratt’s upcoming sci-fi movie is тιтled Mercy, and it co-stars Rebecca Ferguson. Not much is known about the movie, though the film follows a detective who must prove his innocence after being accused of a crime. It’s directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Unfriended) and also stars Annabelle Wallis, Kali Reis, Rafi Gavron, Chris Sullivan, Kenneth Choi, Kylie Rogers, and Jeff Pierre.

Rebecca Ferguson has dominated recent sci-fi, with her roles as Lady Jessica in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies and her starring role as Juliette Nichols in the Apple TV+ series Silo. Ferguson has been a part of two of the best entries the sci-fi genre has seen this decade, and that’s certainly a great sign for Mercy.

Going back even further, Ferguson has always shown the ability to select great sci-fi roles, such as 2017’s Life.

Mercy Can Turn Chris Pratt’s Sci-Fi Fortunes Around

Rebecca Ferguson Has Dominated The Genre

Outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Jurᴀssic World, Pratt’s sci-fi work is plentiful, but not well-received. Mercy could end that streak and turn his sci-fi fortunes around, and Ferguson is his biggest advantage in doing so. With Ferguson onboard, Mercy has a key ingredient that Pratt’s recent projects have lacked – consistent and critically acclaimed sci-fi credibility.

Ferguson brings a level of prestige that could elevate Mercy beyond standard genre fare.

With her strong performances and smart role selection in Dune and Silo, Ferguson brings a level of prestige that could elevate Mercy beyond standard genre fare. If the sci-fi film delivers a thrilling story and compelling characters, Ferguson’s presence could be the turning point in reviving Pratt’s reputation in sci-fi. Pairing Chris Pratt‘s blockbuster appeal with Ferguson’s genre success might finally break his streak of forgettable sci-fi films.

Mercy is scheduled for release on January 23, 2026.
