Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Loses Shōgun Star, Adds Prometheus Actor, 48

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey loses a Shōgun star, but adds a Prometheus actor. Nolan’s highly anticipated movie is an adaptation of Homer’s epic Ancient Greek poem and stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the legendary Greek king of Ithaca, chronicling his long and perilous journey home after the Trojan War.

Led by Damon, The Odyssey features an all-star ensemble that includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Mia Goth, and Corey Hawkins.

The Odyssey has been filming since February 2025 and recently released a theatrical exclusive teaser trailer attached to Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, one year ahead of its scheduled release in July 2026.

Now, Nolan’s next movie has lost one of its cast members. According to ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Cosmo Jarvis has pulled out of The Odyssey and has been replaced by Logan Marshall-Green. However, the role remains under wraps. Jarvis dropped out shortly before filming due to a scheduling conflict, as he is currently gearing up to star in the biopic Young Stalin.

What This Means For The Odyssey

Who Are Cosmo Jarvis & Logan Marshall-Green?

Since the role remains under wraps, it’s unclear just how big of a casting change swapping out Cosmo Jarvis for Logan Marshall-Green will be for The Odyssey. If one thing is clear, the swap wasn’t due to any creative differences with Nolan, as it was a scheduling conflict that forced Jarvis to drop out of The Odyssey.

Jarvis is perhaps best known for his role as John Blackthorne in FX’s hit historical drama series Shōgun, though he recently starred in Alex Garland’s Warfare and is currently gearing up to star in the Young Stalin biopic as the Russian dictator. On the other hand, Marshall-Green has played Charlie Holloway in Prometheus and Jackson Brice, the first Shocker, in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Our Take On The Odyssey’s Casting Change

It Should Be A Seamless Swap

Cosmo Jarvis for Logan Marshall-Green seems like an appropriate swap since they share similar acting profiles and onscreen appearances. For Nolan, this seems like a seamless replacement. Those who are familiar with both actors will likely find the swap natural, as they share strikingly similar screen presences.

It’s unclear who Marshall-Green might be playing in The Odyssey, but with most of the lead roles already confirmed, it will likely be a smaller role, but perhaps a pivotal one, such as one of Odysseus’ doomed crewmates, or even a shape-shifting god in disguise. The Odyssey offers plenty of roles for Marshall-Green to serve as a catalyst in a critical sequence.

The Odyssey releases in theaters on July 17, 2026.
