Michael B. Jordan Reteams With Black Panther Co-Star, 47, As Crime Thriller Remake’s Cast Expands

Michael B. Jordan is heading a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, and recent casting announcements have confirmed that Jordan will be reteaming with his Black Panther co-star for the upcoming film. The Thomas Crown Affair is one of the most iconic heist movies of all time, with the 1968 original and the 1999 Pierce Brosnan remake being brought into the limelight once again for Michael B. Jordan’s version.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Danai Gurira is joining Michael B. Jordan’s The Thomas Crown Affair, reuniting the two MCU stars. Gurira previously starred alongside Jordan in Black Panther, where she played Okoye. Both Gurira’s Okoye and Jordan’s Killmonger appeared in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as well, marking another collaboration between the two actors.

Gurira isn’t the only actor who has joined the upcoming remake this week. It was also announced that Kenneth Branagh and Lily Gladstone will be appearing in The Thomas Crown Affair as well, joining previously announced cast members Michael B. Jordan and Taylor Russell.

What Danai Gurira’s Casting Means For The Thomas Crown Affair

Why The Black Panther Star Has Been Cast

The five actors that have been announced so far are all big names, indicating that the cast of The Thomas Crown Affair will be star-studded. Although it isn’t yet known who Gurira will be playing, there are several options from the original two films. However, it also isn’t known how accurate Jordan’s The Thomas Crown Affair will be to the previous two versions.

It isn’t surprising that Jordan’s Black Panther co-star is appearing, considering his role in the film. While Jordan will star in The Thomas Crown Affair, he is also directing and producing the film. This means that he obviously has a lot of sway behind the scenes, explaining why he is bringing on proven actors whom he has worked with before, like Danai Gurira.

Our Take On Michael B. Jordan’s The Thomas Crown Affair

Will The Remake Be Worth It?

While remakes are always met with a bit of skepticism, I have high hopes for Michael B. Jordan’s The Thomas Crown Affair remake. While the original films are good, they aren’t big enough to indicate that Jordan is simply cashing in on a surefire success. Jordan probably has a good reason for remaking this heist movie in particular, especially considering that he first pitched the remake back in 2016.

Adding all of these talented actors to the film is a good sign as well, signaling that there is something of quality here. Lily Gladstone is coming fresh off of her critical 2023 hit Killers of the Flower Moon, and Taylor Russell recently starred in well-received films like Bones and All and Waves. Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast was an Oscars success, and Gurira and Jordan are well-established stars who bring a lot of credibility to The Thomas Crown Affair.
