10 Marvel Villains Like Mephisto That Could Make Or Break the Future of the MCU

It’s taken a while, but Marvel Comics’ most famous devil has finally debuted in the MCU. After years of wondering when he’d join, Mephisto, the demon infamous for his twisted deals, has debuted in Ironheart. Now that he’s officially come to the MCU, everyone has the same question on their mind: “Who’s next?”.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been around for nearly two decades at this point, and there’s still a swath of villains yet to make an appearance. From powerful, magic foes like Enchantress to insidious masterminds like Mister Sinister, there’s no shortage of villains for the franchise to use. Read on to discover 10 villains that must come to the MCU.

10

Dario Agger

First Appearance in Comics: Thor: God of Thunder #19

Darrio Agger, aka the Minotaur, is the CEO and President of Roxxon Energy. While the conglomerate has been seen in various MCU films and shows, fans have yet to see this sinister captain of industry. Dario is a greedy capitalist who uses all the resources at his disposal to take out heroes who stand in the way of Agger’s profiteering.

Agger is an incredibly innovative villain and now more than ever would be an amazing time to use him in the MCU. With just one multinational corporation, the Minotaur has gone up against the likes of Thor and Hulk and, like the energy corporation he runs, Agger is almost too big to fail.

9

Moonstone

First Appearance in Comics: Incredible Hulk #228

Thanks to films like Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain Marvel, MCU fans have a great understanding of the cosmic side of Marvel. So why not bring in recurring Captain Marvel antagonist Moonstone? Moonstone is a former mental health professional whose life changed forever after she fused with a gravity stone designed by the Kree.

Moonstone is incredibly powerful (enough to serve as Norman Osborn’s Ms. Marvel during the Dark Avengers days). But Karla Sofen is also skilled at manipulation thanks to her psychiatric background. With Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel both currently active, the MCU would do well to have a threat who could challenge them both.

8

Fin Fang Foom

First Appearance in Comics: Strange Tales #89

The MCU has had no short supply of giant threats for its heroes to fight. But how has the franchise been around this long and not included Fin Fang Foom? Fin Fang Foom is an alien being that resembles a dragon and over the years, he’s faced off against dozens of villains, including Iron Man.

Fin Fang Foom has an amazing collection of physical and mental powers, including the ability to bring lifeless objects to life. If the MCU ever wanted to do a big, one-off disaster flick that sees the heroes face off against a powerful monster, Fin Fang Foom is the right beast to use.

7

Ares

First Appearance in Comics: Thor #129

For well over a decade, fans have gotten to know Thor and, thanks to a post-credit scene in his last movie, they also know Hercules exists. But a famous god yet to make their MCU debut is Ares, the god of War. As one would expect, he’s a bloodthirsty deity who is always itching for a fight.

Ares’ strength is matched only by his determination, and once he begins a fight, he doesn’t stop until he or the other party is ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. While Thor and Hercules have yet to work out their issues, introducing Ares would make for an onscreen battle that is sure to please fans eager to see a battle between gods.

6

Shuma-Gorath

First Appearance in Comics: Marvel Premiere #10

As one would expect, Doctor Strange has seen a lot of odd things in his life, but few stranger than Shuma-Gorath. Shuma-Gorath is a Lovecraftian enтιтy who rules hundreds of alternate universes. This is one of the most powerful beings in Marvel canon, able to destroy galaxies and even whole realities.

While a monster similar to Shuma-Gorath appeared in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, that was actually not the monster due to rights’ issues. If those issues are ever worked out, Shuma-Gorath needs to come to the MCU, because it could be a threat not seen since Thanos gathered the Infinity Stones.

5

Annihilus

First Appearance in Comics: Fantastic Four Annual #6

The Fantastic Four is finally coming to the MCU and, since First Steps is already using Galactus, the next big villain to arrive should 100% be Annihilus. Annihilus is the insectoid-like ruler of the Negative Zone who wields the Cosmic Control Rod, which has not only expanded his lifespan, but given him incredible power.

Annihilus is no joke, as he waged a war on the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe and proved him to be a threat on par with Thanos. With Marvel’s First Family on the way to the MCU, now’s a great time to start setting up for Annihilus’ arrival and eventual invasion.

4

Mr. Sinister

First Appearance in Comics: The Uncanny X-Men #221

The X-Men are closer than ever to coming to the MCU and one foe that’s on every X-Fan’s mind is the insidious Mister Sinister. Sinister has been a blight upon the mutant community for years and his cruel experiments on mutantkind make him stand out from the likes of other iconic X-Men enemies.

Mister Sinister isn’t just a threat because of the powers he’s gained from his testing on mutants. He sees mutants as simply a way of facilitating his horrifying vision of creating a superhuman race. Mister Sinister is a madman that endangers humans and mutants, and it’ll be interesting to see what kind of threat he’d be in the MCU.

3

Enchantress

First Appearance in Comics: Journey into Mystery #103

Despite her strong presence in Thor canon, the powerful sorceress Enchantress has yet to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Enchantress is an Asgardian who spent her life learning powerful magic, only to use it for nefarious purposes. Much like Loki, Enchantress would occasionally work with others, but ultimately, held no allegiance to no one other than herself.

Enchantress would be an amazing addition to the MCU. Whether appearing in a Thor movie or showing up to challenge an unexpected hero like Doctor Strange or Scarlet Witch, she’s powerful enough to take any of them on. Hopefully, the MCU will find a good place for her in the future, so fans can see what she’s made of.

2

Molecule Man

First Appearance in Comics: Fantastic Four #20

With a franchise as old as the MCU is, fans want to see bigger, grander threats that are more powerful than they’ve seen before. When it comes to truly raw power, it’s hard to top Owen Reece, aka the Molecule Man. As implied by his moniker, Reece can manipulate molecules, but that’s only half the story.

Molecule Man is capable of altering reality itself and even Doctor Doom recognized Reece’s power, who used Molecule Man to create Battleworld during Secret Wars. Given how the MCU is building up to its own Secret Wars, now’s the best time to bring about this incredibly powerful and game-changing villain.

1

Magneto

First Appearance in Comics: The X-Men #1

Barring Doctor Doom, if there’s one Marvel villain fans are eager to see than any other, it’s Magneto. With it just being a matter of time until the X-Men become the MCU’s next big thing, all eyes are on Erik Lehnsherr, the master of magnetism and the leader of the Brotherhood of Mutants.

It’s true that Magneto has been portrayed in the Fox X-Men films by Ian McKellen and Michael Fᴀssbender. But the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the chance for a new take on Magneto, one that really shows how different Erik is from the likes of other iconic Marvel villains. Hopefully, fans will be seeing Magneto sooner rather than later.
