Lilo & Sтιтch 2 Remake Could Adapt These 10 Movies & TV Episodes Into Live-Action

The live-action Lilo & Sтιтch 2 could adapt any number of pre-existing stories from the animated franchise. The movie is a sequel to 2025’s Lilo & Sтιтch, which was a live-action remake of Disney’s 2002 animated hit of the same name and has so far grossed more than $950 million worldwide against a reported budget of $100 million.

The upcoming Lilo & Sтιтch 2 was officially confirmed in June, but its storyline has not yet been announced. The only clues so far are the 2025 movie’s hints that the characters Angel and Leroy existed in the live-action universe. Additionally, director Dean Fleischer Camp has teased in interviews that the original antagonist Captain Gantu could appear in the sequel.

Should the live-action sequel adapt a pre-existing story from the franchise, there is a lot of material for it to choose from. For instance, it is possible that it could adapt one of the original movie’s three sequels that either premiered on television or direct-to-video.

It could also potentially expand an episode from the Disney Channel spinoff show Lilo & Sтιтch: The Series, which followed the characters tracking down other escaped genetic experiments that were created by the scientist Jumba before he made Sтιтch (who is experiment 626).

Lilo & Sтιтch 2: Sтιтch Has a Glitch (2005)

Lilo & Sтιтch’s First Chronological Sequel

The most obvious installment in the Lilo & Sтιтch franchise that Lilo & Sтιтch 2 could pull its story from is the sequel Sтιтch Has a Glitch, which premiered direct-to-video in 2005. While it was the third movie produced in the franchise, it takes place chronologically between the original 2002 movie and 2003’s Sтιтch! The Movie.

Being a feature-length project, the sequel has a meaty storyline that could be adapted into a live-action movie with blockbuster proportions. It’s a high-stakes narrative following Sтιтch beginning to malfunction, forcing Lilo and her family to race to find a way to cure him before the issue gets so serious that he could die.

Lilo & Sтιтch 2: Sтιтch Has a Glitch was directed by Tony Leondis (The Emoji Movie) and Michael LaBash (Curious George: Go West, Go Wild).

The movie does not feature Gantu, however, which could indicate that Sтιтch Has a Glitch was not the story that Fleischer Camp had in mind when originally ideating a sequel to the live-action remake. However, any follow-up to the live-action movie would have to reshuffle the characters in some way.

This is because Jumba is a major character in most Lilo & Sтιтch follow-ups, but the 2025 movie changed him from a somewhat amoral ally to a full-on antagonist. Thus, it seems more likely that he will either not be present or take on a more villainous role in the live-action sequel.

Sтιтch! The Movie (2003)

The First Feature Produced After Lilo & Sтιтch

Another good option for Lilo & Sтιтch 2 to adapt is 2003’s Sтιтch! The Movie. In addition to being the first direct-to-video sequel to be produced, it is a backdoor pilot to the animated series and sets up the wider universe of the franchise, which could create a solid foundation for further sequels bringing in even more characters and storylines.

The movie’s storyline would have to be significantly rearranged, however, as it involved Gantu (who has not yet been introduced) returning to kidnap Jumba (who is not part of Lilo’s found family in the live-action universe) in an attempt to find out more about his previous 625 experiments.

However, mounting a loose adaptation Sтιтch! The Movie would give the sequel the perfect opportunity to bring in the other experiments that were teased in the 2025 remake.

3

“Yin-Yang” (2003)

Lilo & Sтιтch: The Series Season 1, Episode 9

Yin and Yang standing together in Lilo and Sтιтch The Series

Although it would make less sense for Lilo & Sтιтch 2 to adapt one of the episodes of the television series without the overall premise being set up, it is still possible. The short animated episodes would need to be expanded anyway, so the first act of a movie adapting one of the episodes could be a truncated version of Sтιтch! The Movie.

[The sequel could involved Lilo and Sтιтch] being separated and learning how to resolve conflict…

This would allow the live-action sequel to hand-pick one or more experiments to be central to the storyline of the new movie. The experiments Yin and Yang, for instance, would be perfect, because the plot of the season 1 episode in which they are introduced features Lilo and Sтιтch splitting up to chase two separate experiments after having an argument.

The characters being separated and learning how to resolve conflict, as reflected metaphorically by two experiments who could potentially destroy the planet if they come together, would be an excellent emotional story for the sequel that provides high blockbuster stakes.

4

“Amnesio” (2003)

Lilo & Sтιтch: The Series Season 1, Episode 12

Gantu looking confused in front of Amnesio in Lilo and Sтιтch the Series

This episode, which follows an experiment that causes amnesia, sees Lilo losing her memories and thinking she is a cop chasing down Sтιтch. It could be a good way to shake up the characters in Lilo & Sтιтch 2. Remixing their relationships could be a good way to explore them more deeply, in addition to providing the potential for farcical comedy.

5

“627” (2003)

Lilo & Sтιтch: The Series Season 1, Episode 19

Experiment 627 roaring in the doorway of a ship in Lilo and Sтιтch The Series

This episode could easily be tweaked to feature Jumba as a villain rather than a fatherly figure seeking to punish Sтιтch. Additionally, the episode’s main experiment, 627, was already teased in the ending of 2025’s Lilo & Sтιтch. 627 is a more powerful version of Sтιтch who was a longstanding antagonist and could provide the sequel with a potent conflict.

6

“The Asteroid” (2003)

Lilo & Sтιтch: The Series Season 1, Episode 20

Lilo gesticulating while Sтιтch holds a broken globe in Lilo and Sтιтch The Series

This season 1 episode is another one that has stakes high enough to propel a blockbuster movie, as it features an asteroid hurtling toward Earth. However, it also has high emotional stakes, as the episode features Lilo & Sтιтch realizing that the asteroid houses an alien, meaning that, no matter what, one home must be destroyed.

7

“Angel” (2004)

Lilo & Sтιтch: The Series Season 1, Episode 30

Sтιтch and Angel in a hammock while Pleakley takes a video in Lilo and Sтιтch The Series

This episode, which was a late entry in season 1, is one of the most likely to be adapted because it introduces Sтιтch’s love interest Angel, also known as experiment 624. Angel is one of the most recognizable characters in the franchise, so it seems likely that the filmmakers would want to bring her in as quickly as possible.

Angel features heavily in Lilo & Sтιтch merchandise, especially in matching “his and hers” sets.

Additionally, this would allow the franchise to immediately follow up on the tease in the 2025 movie, which featured a silhouette of Angel while Jumba was scrolling through a roster of his experiments.

8

“Swapper” (2004)

Lilo & Sтιтch: The Series Season 2, Episode 3

Swapper engulfing Lilo and Sтιтch in green light in Lilo and Sтιтch The Series

Much like “Amnesio,” this episode could be expanded into a movie featuring hilarious hijinks. The тιтular experiment has the ability to swap people’s bodies, which results in Sтιтch trying to host a party successfully while in Lilo’s body. This could especially be a good move now that the body-swap subgenre is getting a revival with the upcoming Freakier Friday.

9

“Skip” (2005)

Lilo & Sтιтch: The Series Season 2, Episode 6

Sтιтch bouncing a critter while Adult Lilo looks panicked in Lilo and Sтιтch The Series

“Skip” is another episode that has huge repercussions in the universe of Lilo & Sтιтch, as it follows Lilo using a device to travel forward in time, 10 years at a time. In addition to dealing with important themes about childhood and maturity, it provides a compelling storyline as Lilo and Sтιтch’s absence while time-traveling results in experiments taking over the world.

While this episode heavily features the show’s longtime villain Dr. Hämsterviel, who has not yet appeared in live-action, he could either be introduced at the beginning of the movie or be replaced with Jumba in a potential feature-length adaptation.

10

“Wishy-Washy” (2005)

Lilo & Sтιтch: The Series Season 2, Episode 16

Lilo holding a wand in front of Wishy Washy in Lilo and Sтιтch The Series

“Wishy-Washy” is another episode with a powerful emotional core, as it follows Lilo accidentally using the тιтular wish-granting experiment to sow chaos when she wishes that her older sister Nani and David were married because she doesn’t have parents to take a picture with for hula school.

This could be the perfect storyline for Lilo & Sтιтch 2 because the live-action remake already heavily emphasized the emotional struggles of Lilo and Nani following the deaths of their parents, so it would be a natural fit.
