F1 The Movie Box Office Outgrossing More Than 3 Dozen Other Brad Pitt Movies With New Milestone

F1 The Movie is racing to become one of Brad Pitt’s highest-grossing movies ever. The new movie, which was directed by Top Gun: Maverick‘s Joseph Kosinski, stars Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a fictional Formula 1 driver who returns to the sport after being sidelined years before due to an accident.

The F1 The Movie release kicked off on June 27 with a $57 million domestic debut that gave it the highest-grossing opening weekend in history for an Apple Studios release.

Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, as of Saturday morning, F1 The Movie is projected to earn a 3-day total between $24 and $25 million at the domestic box office by the end of its sophomore weekend. This will bring its cumulative domestic total to roughly $109 million, making it the 9th movie of the year to pᴀss the $100 million domestic milestone.

Additionally, this total will make F1 The Movie Brad Pitt’s 12th highest-grossing domestic release of all time, surpᴀssing more than 3 dozen other тιтles featuring the A-list star, including Interview with the Vampire ($105.3 million), Se7en ($100.9 million), Moneyball ($75.6 million), and Thelma & Louise ($45.4 million).

What This Means For F1 The Movie

It Could Become One Of Brad Pitt’s Top 5 Domestic Movies

Ultimately, it remains to be seen how much higher F1 The Movie can climb among Brad Pitt’s filmography. However, it seems very possible for the movie to break into Brad Pitt’s Top 10. In order to do so, it will need to outgross 2009’s Inglourious Basterds‘ domestic total of $120.8 million. This would require an additional $12 million or so.

2025’s F1 The Movie dropped about 55% during its sophomore weekend, so if it has a similar drop during its third weekend, it will bring in an additional $11 million or so by July 13. This shows that it will easily be able to shoulder its way into the Top 10 by the end of its run. However, breaking into the Top 5 will prove more difficult.

Below, see a breakdown of the Brad Pitt movies between F1 The Movie and a place at No. 5:

F1 The Movie (2025)

~$109 million

In order to surpᴀss Megamind to become Brad Pitt’s fifth highest-grossing movie, F1 The Movie will have to earn an additional $40 million or so. While this is not entirely out of the question, it will probably take at least an additional month for it to hit that milestone, given its current trajectory.

This timeline may become even more extended, because F1 The Movie faces major compeтιтion throughout July. In addition to the new release Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, the upcoming Superman, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps could work in tandem to crowd it out of theaters, slowing down its progress considerably.

Our Take On The F1 The Movie Milestone

It Is Performing Spectacularly Well For An Apple Movie

Given the fact that the reported budget of F1 The Movie is between $200 and $300 million, its ultimate domestic gross may not seem that impressive. However, there are multiple factors that play into it potentially being a major success.

First is the fact that Apple Studios uses theatrical releases as branding exercises and promotion for their movies’ Apple TV+ runs, so they don’t rely on box office as a singular source of revenue.

Second is the fact that F1 The Movie is by far Apple Studios’ biggest hit yet. It is already their highest-grossing movie worldwide, but its domestic gross alone has already outstripped all but two of their previous releases – Napoleon ($217.9 million) and Killers of the Flower Moon ($156.4 million) – which is a roster that includes Argylle ($96.2 million).
