People “Aren’t Interested In Dinosaurs”: Jurᴀssic World Rebirth’s Story Makes No Sense & Its Box Office Will Prove It

One of the most important story points in Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, and the entire Jurᴀssic World franchise, is that people have lost interest in seeing dinosaurs, which is directly at odds with the movie’s likely success. There have been many Jurᴀssic movies, and audiences have latched on to the stories of each. However, the overall appeal is even greater.

Gareth Edwards directs the latest installment in the Jurᴀssic franchise, which introduces a new island and new lore. The opening scene of the film shows an accident occurring, which harkens back to the opening scene of the first Jurᴀssic Park. In fact, Rebirth has far more connections with the Park trilogy than the World series, making its тιтle choice notable.

While there has been little talk yet about providing updates on Jurᴀssic World 5, another sequel in the series feels inevitable. Rebirth sets up many compelling new characters that could go on to be the faces of the franchise, especially in Zora Bennet and Dr. Henry Loomis. However, one confusing component of the film’s premise seems to disagree with itself.

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth Suggesting People Aren’t Interested In Dinosaurs Doesn’t Hold Up

The Idea That People Would Grow Tired Of Dinosaurs So Quickly Doesn’t Make A Lot Of Sense

The film makes a very strange choice that builds upon ideas from Colin Trevorrow’s Jurᴀssic World, suggesting that people are tired of dinosaurs. The film shows this early, where a sauropod is seen on the side of the road as an annoyance to traffic. People in the film have grown tired of seeing dinosaurs, which doesn’t make sense.

Edwards spoke about this to GamesRadar+, where he compared the in-universe experience to being similar to today’s cinematic landscape. By accepting that dinosaurs had become uninteresting, this meant that he would have to find a way to win that interest back throughout the film:

There’s been many dinosaur films in terms of Jurᴀssics, and the audience, you’ve got to do something new and fresh to give them a reason to come see the movie.

The creatures are enormous and beautiful, and while there would certainly be some waned interest after Jurᴀssic World made dinosaurs more commonplace, suggesting that people would no longer care about them, especially in contexts like these, is absurd. Animals like elephants have been known for many years, but one would still marvel after seeing one in traffic.

The new movie takes place only five years after Jurᴀssic World Dominion, and seeing these incredible creatures would still be shocking for many, especially children. This is even seen by the cast, who marvel at the sight of тιтanosauruses in the wild. Resurrected after millions of years, the creatures would still stoke so much pᴀssion among many different people.

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth’s Box Office Will Probably Make This Even Worse

The Film Is Likely To Be One Of The Biggest Movies Of 2025

Despite middling reviews, audiences have consistently turned out for new Jurᴀssic films, which challenges this premise. It seems that deep and affecting stories have not been a driving force behind this success. Instead, audiences keep coming out because they want to see dinosaurs again on the big screen, despite having seen them several times before.

The box office for Jurᴀssic World Rebirth looks strong, even if it might not reach a high for the franchise. Even at the lowest opening in years, Rebirth is now projected by ᴅᴇᴀᴅline to reach $137.5 million over its five-day opening. This directly challenges the premise that people would lose interest in dinosaurs so quickly.

Jurᴀssic World 5 May Show The World Embracing Dinosaurs Again

The New Film Shows Some Positive Changes Coming From Dinosaurs

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth shows the film’s characters marveling at the beauty of dinosaurs and finding a way to use their DNA to advance human medicine. This is an exciting new application for the creatures, and could lead to a change in their in-universe perception. More interesting research could follow, as well as more interconnectivity between species.

The ending of Jurᴀssic World: Fallen Kingdom set up a future where dinosaurs and humans would live side-by-side, which was an interesting premise. However, the series has since gone out of its way to change this, going into detail about how most dinosaurs cannot survive in most areas around the world.

The rumored тιтle for Jurᴀssic World Rebirth was speculated to be Jurᴀssic City, which might be a good тιтle for future installments that could see dinosaurs and humans living side-by-side in urban sprawls.

This is something that should be undone in the next film. Seeing dinosaurs in urban settings in Dominion was one of the highlights of the film, and more could be done with this. Integrating these creatures in regular life could be an excellent path forward for the franchise, and would feel like a new direction that is truer to reality.

Jurᴀssic Movies Should Treat The Dinosaurs As Being Spectacular

Because Dinosaurs Are Big, Terrifying, And Wonderful

Many of the best scenes in the entire Jurᴀssic series have highlighted the spectacular nature of dinosaurs. This harkens back to the iconic scene of the Tyrannosaurus roaring against the Park’s exhibit in Jurᴀssic Park, and is also seen in the Brachiosaurus scene from that film. That same feeling is evoked in Rebirth during the field scene with the тιтanosaurus.

People love dinosaurs, and this universe should reflect that.

Even the characters in the film care about the dinosaurs. They are truly an incredible marvel, and bringing back these beasts is one of the most incredible things humankind has ever done within this universe. Attempting to convince audiences that this world has moved on from being excited about dinosaurs feels disingenuous and untrue.

Future installments in the Jurᴀssic series should accept that people care deeply about these animals, and incorporate that into its story. Even if some novelty has worn off, audiences in our world keep going back to Jurᴀssic movies, and the success of Jurᴀssic World Rebirth will only prove this further. People love dinosaurs, and this universe should reflect that.
