Why Stack Makes THAT Decision About Sammie In Sinners

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Sinners!

Sinners is one of the biggest movies of 2025, and while it has received critical acclaim, many viewers have been asking one question about Stack’s final Sammie decision. Stack is one of the protagonists of Sinners, and while his vampiric transportation turns him into an antagonist, his final encounter with one of Sinners‘ other protagonists is surprisingly amicable.

Most of Sinners takes place in 1932, with it telling the story of twin brothers Smoke and Stack as they attempt to start up a juke joint in Mississippi. However, the juke joint is invaded by vampires, leading to the deaths of most of the main Sinners characters. Sammie is the one exception, with him returning in the Sinners post-credits scene.

The post-credits scene takes place in the 1980s, with Sammie having grown into a famous musician. Now elderly, Sammie is approached in a bar by two vampires: Stack and Mary. The duo tells Sammie that they know he is close to death, yet they leave the bar without harming him.

Why Stack Didn’t Kill Sammie In Sinners’ Post-Credits Scene

He Is Honoring His Deal With His Brother

Many viewers were left scratching thier heads after the post-credits scene of Sinners, as it seemed obvious that Stack would kill Sammie upon their second encounter. However, Stack’s decision can be explained by his final encounter with Smoke earlier in Sinners.

Near the climax of the film, Smoke and Stack fight, with Smoke nearly beating Stack. Instead of killing Stack, however, Smoke shows mercy on his vampiric brother. The brothers make a deal, with Stack agreeing to not harm Sammie as long as Smoke lets him live to escape the juke joint.

This explains why Stack, Mary, and Sammie are still alive 60 years after the night at the juke joint. Stack has honored his promise to Smoke, still watching Sammie while keeping him alive decades after the death of Smoke.

Why Sammie Refused To Become A Vampire

He Doesn’t Want To Be One

During Stack and Sammie’s final encounter, Stack offers to make Sammie a vampire so that he can live forever. Stack explains that he can tell that Sammie is close to death, tempting the musician to join them. Despite knowing that his life is almost over, Sammie declines the offer, wishing to remain human.

This is because Sammie knows that he has lived a long, full life, with him not needing to live forever. He has seen the horrible things that vampires must do, and he knows that he doesn’t want to be part of this. Even though Stack and Mary are still young and will be forever, Sammie decides to keep his humanity at the end of Sinners.
