One Blumhouse Horror Movie Could Save The Studio’s Disappointing Box Office Year

2025 has not been a great year for Blumhouse, but there are hopes that the studio could turn things around with a big sequel coming this December. While the studio has had a strong hold on horror in recent years, the most successful horror movies of 2025 have come from other studios, including the giant Warner Bros. hit Sinners.

2025 has been full of enormous releases, and it has been hard for many movies to make a dent. Quite a few box office risks have been released in 2025, and several of these gambles have failed to pay off. Fortunately for Blumhouse, the studio makes movies at a lower cost, making even their failures less impactful.

Still, Blumhouse needs a hit. While the year has already seen one of the best Blumhouse movies released, it too failed to do much more than earn back its costs at the multiplex. The studio needs to break through with at least one of their upcoming projects, and fortunately, there is one that looks likely to do so.

Blumhouse Has Had A Disappointing Box Office In 2025

Not A Single Film Has Been A Strong Commercial Hit

Many movies have failed to make a big splash in 2025 due to a compeтιтive box office and rising costs of living, and Blumhouse has been especially affected by this. Despite releasing excellent 2025 films like Drop, none of their movies have done much more than earn back their cost.

2025 Film

Budget

Worldwide Box Office

Wolf Man

$14 million

$39.9 million

The Woman in the Yard

$12 million

$23.3 million

Drop

$11 million

$28.5 million

M3GAN 2.0

$25 million

$20 million

Things got especially bad this past weekend, when M3GAN 2.0 opened far below its predecessor, reaping only $10.2 million domestically on its opening weekend. This was down significantly from the $30.4 million that the first M3GAN opened to.

With all of this in mind, and following the weak performance of The Woman in the Yard and the below-expected cume of Wolf Man, the studio really needs something dependable. Fortunately, amid a climate that sees тιтles like A Minecraft Movie stand among the biggest films of the year, there is enormous potential for one upcoming Blumhouse picture.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Is Blumhouse’s Best SH๏τ At Box Office Redemption

The First FNAF Movie Was A Mᴀssive Hit

The upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 could finally give Blumhouse a big hit this year. The first Five Nights at Freddy’s was a huge box office hit, earning the studio a total $297.1 million against a cost of only $20 million dollars. The film released simultaneously on streaming and in theaters, and still gave Blumhouse their biggest hit yet.

Appeтιтes for video game adaptations seem to be the most fervent they have ever been, and interest in the Freddy’s brand is clearly proven. A Minecraft Movie has gone on to be one of the biggest hits of 2025, making just shy of $955 million globally. With Freddy’s 2 releasing exclusively in theaters, the potential for the new movie looks strong.

Can Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Save Blumhouse From A Disappointing Year?

It Actually Might

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 breaking through for Blumhouse is their best chance for 2025, but it is not guaranteed. The film’s budget has not been officially revealed, but rumors suggest it could have inflated to $51 million. If the cost is nearly this high, the film’s path toward success could be hobbled.

The first Five Nights at Freddy’s was not especially well received by critics, holding a 32% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Fortunately, the audience score is a much higher 86%.

Some 2025 sequels with increased budgets have failed to connect this year. M3GAN 2.0 is the latest indicator of this, suggesting that audience interest across projects is not guaranteed. Fortunately, Freddy’s 2 seems to be retaining much of the spirit of the original film in its trailer, and could wind up breaking through.

The first Freddy’s film was not adored by critics, but audiences tended to enjoy it, and there is hope that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 could connect with audiences later this year. With an excellent December release planned, the upcoming film could wind up giving Blumhouse a hit. Hopefully, for the sake of the studio, the movie will succeed.
