F1 The Movie’s Global Box Office Cracks Brad Pitt’s Highest-Grossing Chart

F1 The Movie has sped onto a major chart for star Brad Pitt. The new movie from director Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) stars Pitt as Formula One driver Sonny Hayes, who returns to the racetrack years after a major accident. The F1 The Movie release kicked off with a $57 million domestic debut, marking Apple Studios’ best-ever opening weekend.

Per The Numbers, F1 The Movie has hit a global box office gross of $166.7 million worldwide ahead of the beginning of its sophomore weekend in theaters. Boosted by midweek viewership ahead of the Fourth of July holiday in the United States, the project has now become the 20th highest-grossing movie starring Brad Pitt.

The movie has landed in the Top 20 (for the chart that includes тιтles in which Pitt starred only, not counting movies for which he was a producer) by surpᴀssing the $165.6 million earned by his 1996 movie Sleepers, which was directed by Barry Levinson and also starred Kevin Bacon, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, and Jason Patric.

What This Means For F1 The Movie

It Will Continue To Climb

After earning a global debut of more than $140 million, F1 The Movie seems to be on track to keep climbing the charts as it enters its second weekend in theaters. It is well within the realm of possibility for it to earn an additional $60 million or more by the end of Sunday, which would push it even further up Brad Pitt’s Top 20.

While there is more than $350 million between F1 and the top Brad Pitt movies featuring him as either a supporting actor (ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2, with $786.4 million) or a lead (World War Z, with $531.9 million), earning $60 million in its sophomore weekend would see it climb past six more тιтles to become the star’s 14th highest-grossing movie in history.

Below, see a breakdown of the seven тιтles ahead of F1 The Movie on Brad Pitt’s all-time chart:

Rank

тιтle

Bullet Train (2022)

#15

Fury (2014)

#16

The Lost City (2022)

#18

12 Monkeys (1995)

#19

Burn After Reading (2008)

$168.2 million

#20

F1 The Movie (2025)

$166.7 million

F1 The Movie is currently on track to potentially gross more than $450 million worldwide by the end of its run. Should it indeed surpᴀss that milestone, it would outstrip Bullet Train, Ocean’s Thirteen, Inglourious Basterds, Megamind, Se7en, The Curious Case of Benjamin ʙuттon, Ocean’s Twelve, and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.

It remains to be seen if it surpᴀsses Ocean’s Eleven, which grossed $450.7 million worldwide, but if it does, it would become Brad Pitt’s fifth highest-grossing movie ever.

Our Take On The F1 The Movie Box Office

The Movie Is Set To Become A Notable Success

Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes in his Formula 1 racing suit in F1

While the huge $200 million reported budget of F1 The Movie could place its estimated break-even point as high as $500 million, which could mean that it won’t turn a profit in theaters, Apple Studios counts on theatrical runs as promotion for their brand and for a movie’s eventual streaming debut rather than as revenue-generators in and of themselves.

This means that F1 The Movie will most likely be able to be counted as a major win for both the studio and for Brad Pitt himself by the end of its run.
