Henry Cavill’s Heartfelt Message to New Superman Actor David Corenswet Revealed: “Have Fun With It”

Former Superman star Henry Cavill has already reached out to DC Universe actor David Corenswet according to the DCU star, with the latter set to take over as the next live-action version of the DC icon. After years of waiting, James Gunn’s Superman movie is about to arrive in theaters this month.

Corenswet, who will bring the last son of Krypton back to the big screen, will be the latest actor to portray Superman, following Cavill’s run in the DCEU movie timeline. Cavill’s final time portraying his take on the Man of Tomorrow was in the Black Adam post-credits scene, which was meant to set up a new chapter for his Superman before the DCU reboot was revealed.

Despite having been very limited about speaking about Superman over the last few years, it turns out Cavill has expressed support for Corenswet as his successor. During a Beat 102 103 interview, Corenswet revealed that he and Cavill had been in touch about the DC role. Check it out below:

I was lucky enough to exchange letters with Tyler Hoechlin and Henry Cavill, two fellows who have played Superman before me. Both of them, interestingly, sort of said in their own words ‘I’m not going to give you any tips.’ And I think that’s a very Superman thing. Superman’s not so much for giving advice or dictating how other people should be. They really just conveyed to me an encouragement and a sense of ‘Have fun with it,’ which I think is Superman’s way of doing it, too. They were very encouraging and we had a lovely exchange and I’m excited to meet them one day. It’ll be great when we can all get in a room together.

Another former Superman actor who Corenswet shared had shown his support was Tyler Hoechlin, who portrayed the Arrowverse’s incarnation of the Man of Steel. Hoechlin played Superman both in the Earth-Prime-based shows, as well as in the Superman & Lois series, which exists in the franchise’s larger multiverse.

What David Corenswet’s Superman Comments Mean

The reference to Hoechlin and Corenswet exchanging messages also ties back to The CW star’s comments in 2024, when Superman & Lois season 4 was set to bring the show to an end, partially due to the DCU reboot. According to Hoechlin, Corenswet “actually did [a] really nice letter as we were wrapping up,” with the latter now getting to reference that himself.

When it comes to Cavill, hearing that the former DCEU actor has been in touch with Corenswet is pivotal. For a number of years, there has been a narrative for a long time that the British star was fired when DC Studios favored doing a DCU reboot, including a new Superman movie with a different actor.

But in the end, he was never signed on, meaning Cavill was not fired as Superman to begin with, and Corenswet’s story about the Man of Steel actor being in contact with him showcases that there is definitely no hard feelings on either end. Seeing both Hoechlin and Cavill’s encouragement for Corenswet also highlights the great support that exists in the Superman media family.

After hearing Corenswet’s lovely experience with Hoechlin and Cavill, a meeting between the Superman actors seems like it would be an even bigger deal. Whether through an actual multiverse crossover or something like a special interview with former Superman stars coming together, it seems bringing these actors together would be a great celebration of so many DC eras.

Once Superman gets released, it will be interesting to see what other actors who have been ᴀssociated with the franchise think of the 2025 installment. With Superman getting closer to its theatrical release, the world will soon get to witness Corenswet’s take on the beloved DC hero.
