Face It, Star Wars’ Next Movie Is NOT Going To End This Way

Although we’re still a year away from Star Wars’ next movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, there are still plenty of fan theories about the upcoming film. One theory in particular surrounding Din Djarin has already gotten a lot of traction, much of which is thanks to The Last of Us season 2, despite the fact it’s mᴀssively unlikely.

Din Djarin’s character has never shied away from risk in The Mandalorian TV show. It was in The Mandalorian season 2’s premiere episode that the Mandalorian warrior let himself get swallowed whole by a krayt dragon in order to kill it, a mission he completed with a surprising amount of ease.

Despite his knack for surviving amidst the greatest dangers, however, fans are still convinced that Din Djarin’s plot armor isn’t as strong as his beskar. This has continued into The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, as there are many fans who are convinced that Din’s lucky (or skilled) streak of survival will come to an end.

This Actually Has A Lot To Do With Pedro Pascal

Whether it’s because Din Djarin actually almost did die in The Mandalorian season 1 finale or because Din Djarin actor Pedro Pascal has a tendency to get killed off in most of his projects, fans seem convinced that Din’s at true risk in The Mandalorian and Grogu. This, however, isn’t exactly a new theory.

As someone who’s been very active in this part of the Star Wars fandom ever since The Mandalorian premiered, I’ve watched every single season go by with fans convincing themselves that Din Djarin won’t make it out alive. The Mandalorian season 3 was perhaps the biggest example of this, given Din’s capture in the penultimate episode.

Despite this tendency to incorrectly predict Din Djarin meeting his demise, fans are still convinced that there’s a good chance Din Djarin will be killed in The Mandalorian and Grogu. It’s reasonable to ᴀssume that Pedro Pascal’s recent major character death in The Last of Us season 2 is to blame for this current line of thinking.

While it may be understandable that so many fans are convinced of this, it simply won’t come to fruition. This isn’t just because of the trend I’ve already seen with Din managing to survive each season of The Mandalorian; this is because of Din Djarin’s own role in Star Wars’ current success.

Din Djarin Is One Of Star Wars’ Safest Characters Right Now

The Potential For His Character Is Just Too Great

The truth is that Din Djarin is actually one of Star Wars’ safest characters right now. The Mandalorian effectively launched a brand-new era for Star Wars, digging deep into what we now refer to as the New Republic era. Plenty of brand-new characters and established characters have since become integral to this time period.

Out of all these characters, Din Djarin might just be the safest, along with his beloved green son, Grogu. This is the case for several reasons. Firstly, Din Djarin has become one of the franchise’s most recognizable characters ever since the original Star Wars trilogy. That’s not something the franchise would ever take lightly.

Din Djarin is engineered to be a long-lasting and, in a sense, immortal character.

Secondly, the relationship between Din Djarin and Grogu carries all the appeal of The Mandalorian franchise. Star Wars literally had Din Djarin take over half of The Book of Boba Fett spin-off series just to ensure that Din and Grogu could be reunited before The Mandalorian season 3. They’re not eager to split them up again anytime soon.

The third, and perhaps biggest, reason why this won’t happen is because Din Djarin is engineered to be a long-lasting and, in a sense, immortal character. He almost never removes his helmet, which means that essentially anyone can play the character at any given time should they need to. This is something Star Wars would want to take advantage of.

Din Djarin Is Too Important To Be Killed Off So Soon

Star Wars Needs Him For Their Future

At the core of it all, however, Din Djarin is simply too important to meet his demise anytime soon. He, along with Grogu, is the face of Star Wars’ future, and the success they have garnered together is too mᴀssive to even consider killing him off. You can’t have a franchise based around The Mandalorian without the тιтular Mandalorian.

There’s also the matter of The Mandalorian franchise’s future. It’s looking more and more likely already that The Mandalorian and Grogu could be the first of a brand-new trilogy, as the movie will inevitably be a mᴀssive hit. It would be quite difficult to pursue a trilogy if one of the тιтular characters died in the first movie, though.

Even then, Dave Filoni is already writing his culmination movie for The Mandalorian era, and it’s impossible to imagine that story gets told without Din Djarin, the character who launched it. At the end of the day, Din Djarin is just too important to Star Wars to die at the end of The Mandalorian and Grogu – or anytime soon, really.

The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters May 22, 2026.
