Apple’s New Movie With 97% RT Audience Score Hits A Major Global Box Office Milestone

It’s already halfway through the year, and it has been a somewhat unpredictable time at the box office. On the one hand, there have been some pleasant surprises. The Ryan Coogler-directed horror film Sinners, for example, was a $364 million success, far exceeding projections.

A Minecraft Movie was another film that exceeded its projections. Despite the trailer being mocked by some audiences, the film ultimately grossed $954.9 million. The following month, Lilo & Sтιтch also became a huge hit.

At the same time, however, some movies that seemed like surefire successes are not doing as well as one might have hoped. Recently, this happened with the Blumhouse movie M3GAN 2.0, which had just a $10 million opening and grossed only $18 million worldwide.

This past weekend also saw the release of one of this year’s potential major blockbuster hits. This movie has now made it past a major milestone after just a few days in theaters.

F1: The Movie Has Just Made It Past A New Box Office Feat

The Movie Is Helmed By Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski

F1: The Movie has now crossed a significant box office milestone. Based on the internationally popular Formula One racing, the film follows the story of a retired racing driver who comes to the track again while at odds with a younger driver. The film stars Brad Pitt in the lead role, with a supporting cast including Damson Idris, Javier Bardem, and Kerry Condon.

The film is directed by Joseph Koskinki, who was previously behind Top Gun: Maverick. This movie was a huge box office hit, making $1.49 billion. F1: The Movie is stocked up with impressive stunt work and visual spectacle, helping its potential success.

As per The Numbers, F1: The Movie has crossed a major milestone. The film has now made over $150 million worldwide, with a total of $153.2 million at the time of writing. This is made up of $63.9 million domestically and $89.3 million from overseas markets.

What This Means For F1: The Movie

Will It Make Back Its Budget In Theaters?

Leading up to the Pitt-led action film, the main part of the discussion was F1: The Movie‘s exorbitant budget. It was initially reported to be around $300 million, but this value was disputed by the production team.

Even if the budget is closer to $200 million than it is to $300 million, F1: The Movie will need to do a lot more in sales to break even in theaters alone. Its connection with Apple makes it likely that it will generate significant VOD and streaming revenue later, but at the box office itself, F1: The Movie still has a long way to go.
