Major Dune Star Will Play The Key Villain In Street Fighter Live-Action Movie

A major Dune star will play the key villain in the live-action Street Fighter movie. Based on the Capcom video games, Legendary’s live-action adaptation was originally announced in April 2023 with Danny and Michael Philippou in talks to direct, though they eventually dropped out and were replaced by Kitao Sakurai in May 2025.

More recently, the Street Fighter movie has made several big splashes by casting Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, Orville Peck, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, and Callina Liang as Chun-Li.

Now, according to ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Dune star David Dastmalchian has been cast as the villainous M. Bison in the Street Fighter movie. Representatives for Legendary declined to comment, and the film’s plot remains under wraps.

What This Means For The Street Fighter Movie

Who Are David Dastmalchian & M. Bison?

Street Fighter will be Dastmalchian’s biggest role to date, continuing over a decade of steady work as a character actor and marking another major step forward following his lead role in Late Night with the Devil and his award-winning performance in The Life of Chuck. Previously, Dastmalchian took on supporting roles in several superhero movies, such as The Dark Knight, the MCU’s Ant-Man trilogy, and The Suicide Squad (2021).

Dastmalchian has also collaborated with director Denis Villeneuve on three movies – Prisoners, Blade Runner 2049, and played the villainous Mentat Piter De Vries in Dune (2021). Dastmalchian is known for playing villains, and will be portraying the evil Mr. 3 in Netflix’s One Piece season 2. In turn, Dastmalchian is perfect for M. Bison in the Street Fighter movie.

Raúl Juliá played M. Bison in the 1994 Street Fighter film.

M. Bison serves as the primary antagonist in numerous Street Fighter video games, leading the criminal syndicate called Shadaloo. The organization engages in a range of illicit operations, such as weapons trafficking, mind control experiments, and schemes for global control. M. Bison’s endgame, of course, is to conquer the world.

Our Take On David Dastmalchian’s Casting As M. Bison

Why He’s Perfect For The Role

Dastmalchian has long been known for playing dark and unsettling characters, going back to his screen debut in The Dark Knight – a brief but memorable appearance as the Joker’s paranoid schizophrenic henchman Thomas Schiff, to his more recent role in Dune as Piter De Vries, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen’s eerie and calculating Mentat.

Dastmalchian brings a unique blend of menace, intellect, and unpredictability to every villain he portrays.

Given his long-standing reputation for playing villains, Dastmalchian is perfect for the role of M. Bison in the Street Fighter movie. Dastmalchian brings a unique blend of menace, intellect, and unpredictability to every villain he portrays. That same intensity and nuance should serve him well as M. Bison, a character defined by megalomania, cold brutality, and psychological manipulation.

The Street Fighter movie does not yet have a release date.
