The Turtles Are Back In Theaters This August

Long before the MCU took Hollywood by storm, movies like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles helped popularize the superhero genre on the big screen. As a box office smash that combined the appeal of the original comics and the animated kids’ series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a surprise success that actually became the highest-grossing independent film of all time (via Hollywood Reporter.)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be in theaters on August 17 and 20, 2025.

Not only will grown-up fans be able to introduce their kids to the original Turtles movie in theaters, but the creators of TMNT: Evolution, Mutation & Reboot worked with director Steve Barron to produce the anniversary featurette. This not only features behind-the-scenes insight into the production but also extended scenes, home-recorded footage, and commentary from Barron himself.

Our Take On The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Return To Theaters

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Was Elevated By Its Use Of Practical Effects

The turtles team up in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a classic release whose legacy has only grown in the years since its release. With the turtle costumes developed by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and as one of the final projects Henson worked on before his death, there’s a retro charm to the way the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie valued practical effects over CGI.

With a campy energy, hilarious one-liners, epic brawls, and a sense of silliness that appeals to viewers of all ages, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is just plain fun. Getting a chance to be able to see this cult favorite on the big screen once again after all these years is a rare delight.

The popularity of the Turtles has endured largely thanks to great movies like the 1990s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which stands as one of the best cinematic outings for these mutated heroes. As a fantastic blend of fun storytelling, practical effects, and surprising emotional depth, we should all come out of our shells to celebrate the Turtles in theaters.
