Brad Pitt’s New Racing Movie Hits Huge Box Office Milestone, Closes In On 2025 Top 10 After Just 3 Days

F1 The Movie has hit a huge milestone during its debut weekend. The new movie, which was directed by Top Gun: Maverick‘s Joseph Kosinski, stars Brad Pitt as Formula One driver Sonny Hayes, who teams with H๏τsH๏τ rookie Damson Idris (Joshua Pearce) when he returns to the track years after an accident prematurely ended his career.

The F1 The Movie release kicked off during the final weekend of June. At the domestic box office, it became the first adult-oriented movie to take No. 1 during the 2025 summer movie season, ending the reign of the live-action remakes Lilo & Sтιтch and How to Train Your Dragon.

Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, as of Sunday morning, F1 The Movie is projected to close out its opening weekend with a worldwide gross of $144 million, comprising its $55.6 million domestic debut and an additional $88.4 million from 78 international markets.

This total sees it surging past the $100 million global milestone within a matter of three days and debuting as the 12th highest-grossing movie of 2025 so far.

What This Means For F1 The Movie

It Will Race Into The Top 10 Soon

With such a stellar head start, 2025’s F1 The Movie is set to keep climbing the worldwide box office chart as its theatrical run continues. It should be quite easy for it to break into the Top 10, as only $61.7 million separates it from the current No. 10 тιтle, which is Disney’s live-action Snow White remake ($205.7 million).

Additionally, it shouldn’t take more than a day for it to surpᴀss DreamWorks’ Dog Man ($145.5 million) as No. 11, continuing its trajectory toward the top of the chart. Below, see a full breakdown of the five movies ahead of F1 The Movie on the worldwide chart at the time of writing:

Rank

тιтle

Worldwide Box Office

#7

Thunderbolts*

$381.6 million

#8

Sinners

$364.7 million

#9

Final Destination Bloodlines

#10

Snow White

#11

Dog Man

$145.5 million

#12

F1 The Movie

$144 million

Its momentum is helpful, because the reported budget of F1 The Movie is $200 million, which could make its break-even point as high as $500 million. Even so, it will not be necessary for it to break even in theaters, because it is an Apple Studios release, so its true worth will be measured in brand recognition and streaming revenue.

However, it is the big-budget Apple movie that seems most likely to hit that target after high-profile theatrical disappointments such Argylle, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Napoleon.

Our Take On The F1 The Movie Global Debut

Its Prospects Are Promising

This box office potential is especially promising because the ending of F1 The Movie is designed in a way that leaves the door open for a potential sequel.

Should F1 The Movie perform well enough to get a sequel greenlit, it would mark the first time that a theatrical Apple Studios movie has gotten a sequel since they made their debut in 2019, and the second time for any Apple Studios movie in general, after the 2023 Apple TV+ exclusive action comedy The Family Plan.
