Captain America: Brave New World disappointed Marvel Studios at the box office, yet that has not stopped it from being a streaming hit. The Marvel movies of 2025 so far have underperformed at the box office. Upcoming Marvel movies like The Fantastic Four: First Steps will hope to change fortunes, yet streaming has still proved a popular avenue for redemption.
As per stats from Flixpatrol, Captain America: Brave New World was the third most popular property on Disney+ on June 27, 2025, and had been in the top 10 for 28 days. This comes after a disappointing $415 million box office haul, proving the film has a home on streaming. The movie also moved up one spot from fourth, proving its popularity continues.
What Captain America: Brave New World’s Streaming Success Means
Audiences Are Waiting For Disney+ Releases
Concerning what Captain America: Brave New World‘s streaming success means, it mostly means audiences are frequenting theaters less, at least for certain movies. The disappointing box office of the film is proof of this, with the same being said for Thunderbolts*. With movies releasing so quickly after theaters on streaming, though, audiences have the opportunity to wait.
The resurgence of Captain America: Brave New World on streaming is proof that this is happening. It will be interesting to see the streaming success, or lack thereof, of Thunderbolts* to see if the same is true for that MCU property. Nonetheless, Captain America: Brave New World, at least, is finding more success from its home releases than its theatrical one.
Our Take On Captain America: Brave New World’s Streaming Success
Overall, I am both glad and saddened to see Captain America: Brave New World find success in streaming. I am glad, as I believe Anthony Mackie’s Captain America deserves more love. The character has been no stranger to hatred and vitriol, unnecessarily. I wanted his first theatrical film to succeed, so, in a way, I am glad it is finding an audience.
The sadness comes from the fact that audiences chose to wait. If they had seen Captain America: Brave New World in theaters, it may not have been classified as a box office flop for Marvel. I admit that Captain America: Brave New World was not an excellent movie, and probably the weakest of all Captain America movies, but it was a (mostly) fun time.
Audiences who saw it in theaters are aware of that, yet those who caught it on Disney+ missed that experience. I would have liked more people to have shown up for the new Captain America, but the shortened time between theaters and streaming means they did not.
Therefore, I am disheartened that Captain America: Brave New World was not a stronger box office pull, but I am glad it is getting some love, post-release.
