James Gunn Reveals Whether He & Chris Pratt Have Discussed The Marvel Star Joining The DCU

Superman director and DC Studios head James Gunn addresses the possibility of casting Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt in the DCU. James Gunn and Chris Pratt collaborated on the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, which claimed a special spot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Gunn retired from the MCU with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, while Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill is set to continue on a solo journey as “The Legendary Star-Lord.”

Speaking to ComicBook, James Gunn confirms he’s “always looking for stuff” that could suit his longtime collaborators. Gunn confirms he’s always looking for a role the Star-Lord actor, which likely includes a DCU character. The Superman director also mentions that Pratt, Mantis actor Pom Klementieff, and Yondu actor Michael Rooker are especially close to him. Read Gunn’s full comments below:

“Listen, Chris Pratt still one of my closest friends in the world and I am always looking for something for him. But also … the others, too. I mean he and Pom [Klementieff] are the ones that I see the most, and I’m the closest with and [Michael] Rooker. So I’m always looking for stuff.”

It May Not Take Long For Chris Pratt To Get A DCU Role

James Gunn has already brought several MCU stars to the DCU. In fact, Gunn has confirmed that Superman features three Guardians actors — Pom Klementieff and Michael Rooker will voice two of the Fortress of Solitude’s service robots, and Bradley Cooper will play an undisclosed character, who may or may not be Superman’s father Jor-El. Nathan Fillion, who made a cameo in Vol. 3, will play Guy Gardner, and Michael Rooker will play Red St. Wild in Peacemaker Season 2.

Sean Gunn, who played Kraglin and served as Rocket Raccoon’s on-set actor, voices G.I. Robot in Creature Commandos and will appear as Maxwell Lord in Peacemaker season 2.

There are plenty of developing projects and dozens of new characters in the DCU’s Gods and Monsters chapter. The chances of seeing familiar MCU actors pop up in any upcoming DCU movie or show are quite high. And taking into account that actors like Sean Gunn and Michael Rooker have played multiple DC characters in a short period, it wouldn’t be strange to see Chris Pratt get more than two DCU roles.

Our Take On James Gunn’s Chris Pratt Comments

Chris Pratt’s Potential DCU Role Is Hard To Predict

There’s a wide range of DC characters that Chris Pratt could bring to life in the DCU. With the upcoming Booster Gold series and other cosmic or time-traveling projects in development, roles like Booster Gold himself, Adam Strange, or even Ted Kord would fit Pratt’s comedic charm. These characters strike a balance between eccentricity and heart, much like his portrayal of Star-Lord.

Chris Pratt’s DCU role doesn’t have to echo his past Marvel performance, though. Pratt has shown his dramatic side in movies like The Tomorrow War and Jurᴀssic World, which could translate well to more somber or conflicted DC characters. Pratt could shine as the disillusioned Captain Atom, the rugged bounty hunter Jonah Hex, or the antiheroic Catman. Whether Gunn casts him in a comedic or serious role, the possibilities for Chris Pratt in the DCU are diverse.
