July 2025 will see a variety of movies releasing in theaters, such as a new Jurᴀssic World movie, two superhero movies from different worlds, a horror reboot, a sci-fi horror movie, and more. The summer of 2025 kicked off on the right foot with a variety of exciting theatrical releases in June. Although July won’t bring as many movies to theaters as previous months did, it will see the arrival of some of the most anticipated movies of the year from different genres, as well as smaller but interesting releases.

June 2025 brought movies like the survival horror film Dangerous Animals, the John Wick spinoff Ballerina, Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme, Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck (based on Stephen King’s novella of the same name), the live-action remake of How To Train Your Dragon, Pixar’s Elio, Danny Boyle’s long-awaited 28 Years Later, and the sequel to M3GAN. July 2025 will see the release of another entry in the Jurᴀssic World franchise, the return of Superman and the Fantastic Four, a new serial killer in a horror reboot, and more.

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth Will Be Released On July 2, 2025

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth is a sci-fi action movie directed by Gareth Edwards and a standalone sequel to 2022’s Jurᴀssic World Dominion. Set five years after the events of Dominion, Jurᴀssic World Rebirth sees a world where the environment has proven to be inhospitable for the remaining dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals, with the surviving creatures now living in remote, tropical locales. Covert operative Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson) is recruited by the pharmaceutical company ParkerGenix to team up with Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey).

Loomis, Bennett, and their team, led by Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali), infiltrate an island once used as a dinosaur research facility. Their goal is to locate the three largest remaining prehistoric species from land, sea, and air, as their biomaterials are key to developing a revolutionary drug that could save many lives.

Superman

Superman Will Be Released On July 11, 2025

Superman is back in his first big-screen adventure in the DC Universe. Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and unlike most movies about this superhero, it skips his origin story. Thanks to this, Superman follows Clark’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his adoptive human family in Kansas, while also dealing with a mᴀssive threat. Superman is the first movie in the DC Universe.

Sovereign

Sovereign Will Be Released On July 11, 2025

Sovereign is an action crime thriller written and directed by Christian Swegal. Based on true events, Sovereign follows Jerry (Nick Offerman) and Joe Kane (Jacob Tremblay), father and son, who identify as Sovereign Citizens, who are a group of anti-government extremists. While traveling across the country to give self-taught legal seminars and spreading their ideas and beliefs, the Kanes come into conflict with Police Chief Jim Bouchart (Dennis Quaid), leading to an intense manhunt and triggering a tragic chain of events.

I Know What You Did Last Summer

I Know What You Did Last Summer Will Be Released On July 18, 2025

The latest addition to the trend of horror reboots is the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise. Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, I Know What You Did Last Summer is a sequel to I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and the fourth installment in the franchise. Set 27 years after the Tower Bay murders, five friends find themselves in a situation that will sound familiar to viewers: they accidentally kill a pedestrian and choose to cover up their involvement to avoid consequences.

One year later, the group begin to receive messages from a stalker claiming to know what they did the previous summer, but even worse, this person begins to kill them one by one. The group realizes the killer is imitating Ben Willis, and so they seek help from the only survivors of the Southport Mᴀssacre and two of three survivors of the Tower Bay murders: Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr.).

Eddington

Eddington is a Western black comedy-drama written and directed by Ari Aster. Set in May 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Eddington stars Pedro Pascal as Ted García, the тιтle town’s mayor running for reelection, and Joaquin Phoenix as Joe Cross, the town’s sheriff who decides to run for mayor to defeat García. This leads to a standoff between them, which leads to bigger problems as the town begins to take sides and the true colors of each candidate come to light. Also starring are Emma Stone, Austin Butler, and Luke Grimes.

Smurfs

Smurfs Will Be Released On July 18, 2025

The famous Smurfs are back with yet another movie, simply тιтled Smurfs. Directed by Chris Miller and written by Pam Brady, Smurfs is a reboot of the film series, and it’s a live-action animated musical comedy adventure. The events of Smurfs begin when Papa Smurf (voiced by John Goodman) is taken by evil wizards Gargamel (JP Karliak) and his brother Razamel. Smurfette (Rihanna) leads the rest of the Smurfs on a mission into the real world to rescue Papa, and with the help of new allies, they will figure out what defines their destiny.

Guns Up

Guns Up is an action comedy movie written and directed by Edward Drake. Guns Up follows Ray Hayes (Kevin James), the henchman of a mob boss, whose final job doesn’t go as planned. With time running out, Hayes has only one night to get his unsuspecting family out of the city before those going after him find him. Also starring in Guns Up are Christina Ricci, Luis Guzmán, Joey Diaz, Timothy V. Murphy, and Melissa Leo.

The Fantastic Four: The First Steps

The latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is The Fantastic Four: The First Steps. Directed by Matt Shakman, The Fantastic Four: The First Steps takes the audience into a 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic parallel Earth, which the Fantastic Four team – Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) – must protect from the planet-devouring cosmic villain Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner).

Ick

Ick Will Be Released On July 27, 2025

Ick is a sci-fi horror comedy directed by Joseph Kahn. Ick follows Hank (Brandon Routh), a former high school football star and now science teacher. Hank’s life takes a wild turn when he suspects one of his students is his daughter, but on top of that, there’s an alien threat in town known as the “Ick.” This will force Hank to team up with his student, Grace (Malina Weissman), and his former girlfriend, Staci (Mena Suvari). Ick will have a limited theatrical release on July 24 and a wider release on the 27th.
