Avatar 3 Image Reveals Tense Reunion For Quaritch & Spider

A new image for Avatar: Fire and Ash teases a tense reunion between Quaritch (Stephen Lang) and Spider (Jack Champion). Quaritch, who served as the main antagonist in James Cameron’s Avatar, died by the end of the first movie. He left behind a son, Spider, who was then raised by Jake Sully and Neytiri on Pandora.

In The Way of Water, Quaritch came back to life in the form of an Avatar and again threatened the peace of their lives, which led to the death of Jake and Neytiri’s eldest son, Neteyam.

Now, Empire revealed a new image, teasing a tense reunion between Quaritch and his biological son. In the image, Quaritch appears to be trying to talk to Spider, but Spider is holding his arm while being turned away from him. While talking to the magazine, Lang shared that their upcoming reunion isn’t about resolution and warned about “betrayal” around the corner. Read his comment below:

“They reconnect out of necessity. Their connection is not a solo connection. There are times when everybody comes together on some level. But, when enemies cooperate, you can be sure betrayal is just around the corner.”

“Spider confuses Quaritch. But Quaritch wants clarity. There is something about Spider that Quaritch really loves — not a word we ᴀssociate with him. I think respect and admiration really develop in spades, as well as animosity and manipulation. The relationship will deepen — for better or worse.”

What This Means For Avatar: Fire And Ash

Quaritch And Spider Will Confront Each Other

The sequel saw Spider reconnecting with his resurrected biological father, but Quaritch’s relentless hunt for Jake and his family put him in a complicated position. At the end of The Way of Water, despite everything Quaritch has done, Spider saved his father from drowning. However, the new image suggests that the upcoming reunion is hardly happy in tone.

In the same interview, Lang shed some light on how his character might feel about Spider after the long separation. He shared that the Colonel might be confused about who Spider has become. While the fatherly love and admiration are there, he also warned that the deepening of their bond could serve as a double-edged sword.

Our Take On Quaritch And Spider’s Journey In Avatar: Fire And Ash

Quaritch And Spider’s Reunion Might End Up In Flames

The road ahead might be rockier than ever for Quaritch and Spider, and it does seem like the scheduled Avatar threequel might offer them a chance to get to know each other for real. Spider is trapped between the family that raised him and a father he’s related to by blood, and it makes sense that he’ll want answers and connection.

However, Lang’s comment suggests that Quaritch isn’t above manipulating his own son. Spider will learn the truth about his father the hard way, but it’s also a lesson that no one can take away from him. By centering around the father-and-son relationship, Avatar: Fire and Ash could see Spider ending up playing a crucial role in defeating Quaritch and the outside threats.
