Jason Statham’s Ridiculous $529 Million Action Movie Landing On New Streaming Platform

Jason Statham has a $529 million sci-fi action movie that will land on a new streaming service in July, courtesy of The Meg. Statham has become the recent king of action movies, consistently drawing fans to theaters and enabling his releases to generate profits at the box office thanks to their lower budgets.

While he has mostly stuck with lower-budget action movies where he can let his fists and guns do the talking, he has also been entrusted with a major franchise that has given him a budget of over $100 million. He paid off their trust, and The Meg became a monster success, which is ironic since it was a monster movie.

Statham stars as Jonas Taylor, a rescue diver who believes he experienced something huge and unknown during a failed deep-sea rescue mission. Now, that giant creature is back, and Jonas ends up lured out of seclusion to save another trapped sub, while realizing that his true enemy is a mᴀssive prehistoric shark.

What This Means For The Meg

The Meg Should Become Another Streaming Success

The Meg has been moving between streaming services since its release back in 2018. It was a box office success in theaters, allowing Statham to return for the sequel. The first film also proved successful on streaming, ranking in the top 10 on Netflix upon its arrival there. Now, it is moving to a different service.

On July 1, The Meg moves onto HBO Max. This gives the Jason Statham sci-fi horror movie a chance to find even more fans on a new platform. If it’s anything like the Netflix release, The Meg should move up the rankings on HBO Max and become a top streaming option, just as it did at its previous streaming home.

Why You Should Watch The Meg On HBO Max

The Meg Is A Fun Watch For Monster Movie Fans

Jason Statham in The Meg.

This is great news for fans of giant monster movies. While some might claim The Meg is a “ridiculous” movie, it delivers everything a giant monster movie fan could want. Jason Statham is spectacular as Jonas, the man who sets out to kill Meg, and he sells every scene he appears in.

The rest of the cast is also strong, with Rainn Wilson, Cliff Curtis, Winston Chao, Page Kennedy, Robert Taylor, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, and Ruby Rose delivering solid performances in their supporting roles. The special effects are also solid, with Meg looking menacing and terrifying in its appearances.

However, the best reason to watch The Meg is that it is also a funny movie. Director Jon Turteltaub balances the thrilling shark-hunting scenes with some great laughs, allowing the movie to breathe, and it ultimately became one of the best monster movies released in the last decade.

The good news is that Meg 2: The Trench is already available on HBO Max, so anyone who has watched the first film can immediately move on to watch the sequel. While the second movie is not as good as The Meg, it still delivers giant monster action, and Statham always delivers in his action movies.
