Ryan Gosling’s New Sci-Fi Adventure Movie Gets Colorful First Poster & Trailer Release Date

The first poster for Ryan Gosling’s space adventure Project Hail Mary has been revealed. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (21 Jump Street, The LEGO Movie), the upcoming film is adapted from Andy Weir’s novel of the same name and will be released in March 2026.

Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, a science teacher who wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of how he got there. However, he soon realizes that he’s been tasked with solving a mystery threatening Earth: what is making the sun die out? Project Hail Mary also stars Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub.

Amazon MGM Studios has now kicked off promotion for Project Hail Mary by releasing the first poster, which features an astronaut (likely Gosling) hurtling over a colorful spacescape while being dragged by a ship. The poster also came with the news that the first trailer will be revealed on Monday, June 30. Check out the poster below:

What This Means For Project Hail Mary

Amazon MGM Has A Lot Of Confidence In The Movie

Project Hail Mary is scheduled for March 20, 2026, so the poster and trailer are coming just under a year ahead of its release. In the case of the poster, it isn’t very surprising, since studios will generally put out basic one-sheets months before release.

The upcoming trailer debut, however, is notable. Recent years have seen studios hold their first pieces of footage until a bit closer to release; for example, the first trailer for Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, which releases on July 2, dropped in February, only five months early. Disney hasn’t even revealed a trailer for this year’s Avatar: Fire & Ash yet.

Avatar: Fire & Ash is scheduled for release on December 19.

Amazon MGM’s decision to start hyping Project Hail Mary close to nine months ahead of time suggests it has a lot of faith in the project and believe it can resonate with audiences. With close to a year to drum up interest, Amazon MGM can make Project Hail Mary one of the buzziest movies of 2026.

Our Take On The Project Hail Mary Poster

It Looks Seriously Awesome

Mark Watney (Matt Damon) contemplating in the Hermes in The Martian.

One of Weir’s books was previously adapted into a movie with 2015’s The Martian, and it proved to be one of the biggest movies of the year. Weir’s science fiction premises have made him a must-read author in the genre, and Project Hail Mary promises to live up to the standards set by his work and the other adaptation.

Though the poster itself is simple, the gleaming streaks of color and the striking visual of Gosling, so small on the edge of the sheet, elicit both intrigue and excitement. With new Project Hail Mary footage coming along very shortly, what exactly is in store will soon become clear.
